PRI 2016: Part 4

PRI 2016: Part 4

by Pablo Mazlumian

There’s still plenty of cool products to show you from the Performance Racing Industry 2016 show, so let’s get right to it. You’ve come to the right place to get the most extensive PRI coverage anywhere. If you’ve missed Part 1, Part 2, or Part 3, make sure to check those out. And if you’re a glutton for PRI punishment, you can peruse through our 90 pages of PRI coverage from last year as well!

Fuel Injector Clinic had a small display of its available injectors, and while nothing new has been released for 2017 in the hardware department, they’re proud to claim to have the most data provided to its customer by what you see below.

FIC's been hard at work with its technological expansion for what tuners can do with their products to get more precise flow rates. First, this chart shows where FIC's injectors have been at in terms of flow rate consistency, which far exceeds OEM with a less-than-1% variance.

Second, FIC's been expanding its database for various injector sizes to be monitored by the OE ECU with FIC’s Data Match Technology. After the data is correctly inputted into the ECU, it will dictate precisely the amount of fuel to go with the measured air for consistent air-to-fuel ratios. Having achieved this in collaboration with ECMTuning, the data sheet provided will give you–and for each injector–the dynamic slop flow rate (linear flow rate to calculate pulse width), individual injector offset values (latency), and the injector voltage offset table. The latter is apparently so time consuming for FIC to perform that it’s got a 4 million-point process!

The Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT) booth had a nice display showing off different disc setups for its various clutch packages. On the left, we've got its street-friendly sprung and unsprung discs followed by a 6-puck and then a 4-puck design for higher horsepower applications, all of which can be ordered sprung or unsprung as well. If you want smoother engagement with less shock to the drivetrain at the cost of slightly more weight and slightly more wear, get the sprung hub. If you’d prefer very direct shifting, but don’t mind its harshness or added noise, you can get unsprung. ACT offers sintered iron discs for drag racers as well.
