Jim, I have a 2000 STi Type R, and I purchased it  with Tein Super Streets, as the only suspension mod. I am planning on using it for circuit purposes only, so naturally the super streets are too soft. a weekend at the track confirmed this.

I am thinking of the following:

send the coilovers to Tein to revalve them for race track use and stiffer springs

buy a pair of XRD swaybars

complete set of bushings.

our track here in Jamaica is a bit bumpy so I figure I shouldnt go overboard with the stiffness of the suspension -  I am thinking something in the range of a fastroad/occasional trackday setup - and find the stiffest swaybars I can find.

what do you think?

also, what alignment settings do you reccomend for my model car?

looking forward to hearing from you.

G’day everyone,

Shifter Kart, I think you’re pretty much on the money with your summary here and we’ve had plenty of experience with tarmac rallying on public roads that are less than.

The shock you mention are twin-tubes construction (from memory) so have limited oil volume which will make control a little more difficult with prolonged and with big spring/roll rates to control, I suspect that will be a limitation compared with a larger bore mono-tube or race twin-tube design (becoming more popular). Just be aware of that.

The XRD bars should be OK and the adjustability is great but you may actually need just the 24mm front (BSF20XZ) and 22mm (BSR20XZ) rear to start with as you’ll be using intermediates and not slicks. And, articulation is important for tarmac rally so you need to allow those wheels to move over the lumps and bumps. Don’t forget that the Type R has a different torque split than the WRX and so front bars become more important than rear comparatively so be prepared to go to a XRD 26mm for the front.

As for alignment, the web site has a recommended start point for alignment settings listed for this car

here

. In fact this whole page has a heap of useful info to help decide the range of options. In your case, there are a HEAP of things you need to consider and take a look at this page for some ideas.
