XDC Texas

Xtreme Drift Circuit - Texas

By Sarah Forst

The Xtreme Drift Circuit finished up its third season at the 2012 finals this past weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.  The West Coast drivers competed for a chance at the Top 16 competition on Friday and the East Coast and West Coast drivers went head to head at Saturday's finals.  There were already five rounds in the books going into the weekend's events with 3 East Coast competitions and 2 on the West Coast, a double round in Phoenix at the start of the season.  The West Coast drivers had an opportunity to learn the track Friday while competing in their third round, balancing out the point structure.

Texas Motor Speedway
It was hotter than hades at Texas Motor Speedway with temps in the triple digits.

XDC started as a quasi grassroots field of amateurs and some professionals that travelled the country to compete head to head in drifting competitions.  The top drivers will be invited to compete in a drifting competition November 10-11 in Buenos Aires, Argentina against winners of other contests around the world.  Most of these guys have some sponsors but are pretty much privateers making it a close race to the podium.  XDC usually partners with Hot Import Nights (HIN) events to pull together the largest crowds.  The drifting competition includes a $10,000 purse with $1000 going to the top qualifier and the other $9,000 split amongst the top 8 as long as there are 32 drivers competing. Any fewer results in the top 8 prize money being split in half.

I think XDC should ban V8's to be different from Formula D.

^ it is tough to have a grassroots org. and have a bunch of different motor options. Allowing them seems to permit people to progress and perhaps try and move up to Formula D yet it does hurt those that are only in it for the fun and are not trying to go pro. The fields do not seem large enough to have classes either.

Do you think that banning V8's would still permit drivers the right stage to hone their skill set to move to Formula D and jumping in to a FD prepped car?

Mike, do you think that just to set the series apart from FD or since there are no power to weight classes, to keep it more even because it is a more grassroots series? There is always that last argument since hp is definitely an advantage with tandem runs but Rhys and Vaughn are still good matches even against Daigo's 1200hp.
