Driver Blog: Tyler McQuarrie - Wall Speedway, New Jersey

I always look forward to this round simply because Wall Speedway has been good to me in the past and I like the track. The track layout we use is longer than most tracks we go to and there is a lot of time spent at full throtle, with some aggressive transitions. It just has a lot of flare.... But it can also bite you big! I was excited to get the Mobil 1 Chevrolet Camaro out there!

New Jersey is nuts! It's a fun track, and I've done well there before. There's always lots of drama and excitement at Wall Speedway, but I guess this time we were at the center of it.

We definitely had our most interesting qualifying session of the year. It's not a jersey event without rain so I wasn't surprised when it started to rain with about 3 cars ahead of me for my first run. When I got out there it was very slippery and it was my first time in the rain at this track and my first time drifting the Yokohama Advan Neovas in the rain, so I was simply looking for the grip and the Neova's had the grip!

It always rains in New Jersey. And this year we got stuck doing our two qualifying runs in the rain.

I ended up with 65.5 which was a pretty decent score in the rain because they were not giving out the 10 speed points. It stopped raining when I was up for my second run but the track was still wet. The grip was a little better so I hung it all out and got a 83. That score was really good at the time but the track started to really dry after that. The last 8 guys had a totally dry track and the judges were throwing out scores in the 90's like crazy so we dropped down to 12th overall. Not a bad effort considering both my runs we're in the rain and over half the 50+ car field had at least one dry run.

At the driver's meeting I found out we were 12th. Not bad, especially considering that we were one of the last cars to qualify in the rain, I was pretty happy.

Not to start a flame war, but Chelsea is really a great and down to Earth guy, he's one of the most humble guys out there. He wouldn't want Tyler to feel bad and wouldn't have tried to start a fight but I don't think he was at fault.

Even if you want to say he was going to fast, isn't it because Tyler was leading at a pace that is his job to follow? I feel like the judging decision was more based on who could "continue the show". There have been a lot of inconsistant calls by the FD judges and I feel like it really detracts from the series as a whole.
