Project Ducati Hypermotard: Part VI, Saving Weight
The Braille battery and any lithium batteries for that matter require a special charger to charge correctly and fully.  Braille has several different chargers that can charge a battery fully in as little as 10 minutes.

Since lithium batteries have much different charging properties than lead acid or gel batteries, they must be charged with a special charger.  A conventional charger won’t charge a lithium battery.  We picked up Braille’s 2 amp lithium battery charger just in case we ever had to charge our battery.

Project Ducati Hypermotard: Part VI, Saving Weight
We have gotten rid of a lot of business and clutter on the back of the bike.

Overall we have pared 35.5 lbs. from our bike with just some simple modifications that did not compromise the bike's utility or driveability.  Most of this weight loss was high and rearward on the chassis, right where you would want to lose it.  Supposedly our bike weighs 356.5 lbs. now.  However, Ducati’s quoted weight (as with most bike manufacturers) is pretty optimistic.  We think that the factory claimed weight of 390 lbs. is completely dry with no fuel or even any other lubricants or fluids.

Project Ducati Hypermotard: Part VI, Saving Weight
We think that this is one of the nicest looking Hypermotards we have seen!

We think that adding a conservative 20 lbs. for fluids and fuel is more of a realistic ready to ride weight, so that would leave us at 376.5 lbs. for a fully topped off bike.  That is really light for an 1100cc fully equipped bike!  That is 2.5 lbs. lighter than the new Evo SP whose factory quoted 379lbs is also probably fudged dry weight.  When riding the bike, you can really feel the difference in weight.  The bike is easier to throw around and just feels more nimble.  We think it's because most of the weight was eliminated up high.

In our next edition of project Hypermotard we will probably look into improving the suspension, we are researching our options right now.

That is an impressive amount of weight savings for an already-light sports bike.

You guys numbered it wrong, it's part 4 not 6. Bike looks great, makes me want to learn to ride and get a bike of my own.

I have mixed feelings about the supermoto style bikes but love the way this is looking!

Have you thought about getting an adjustable lowering link for the rear and then maybe lowering the front and rear, say 15mm before spending money on having the shocks revalved?

With the Lithium battery requiring a special battery charger - does one have to change the alternator/charging circuit?

Braille makes ultra light race car batteries as well. Like one that weighs only 4 lbs!

The battery is completly compatable with the stock charing system.

The bike has the optional Ducati lowering link and it is aready lowered in the link and triple clamps to the max amount.

I can see it on the clamps now that you mention it, geez it just doesn't seem like that much but that looks like a good 15-20mm.

Have you tuned this suspension yet Mike or is that what you guys are still debating right now?

We are considering ohlins inset for the forks or Racetech.

Ohlins to match front and rear would be tight. Spendy but tight! I think Racetech has a good rep for being helpful.

I'm a sucker for Euro bikes. In my twenty years of riding dirt bikes, quads and even 3 wheelers all my bikes were Huskys both Swedish and Italian in origin. Love Ducatis and what your doing with yours!

it already shares the SBK suspension right?

Get some of the 848 or 1098 takeoffs.

Tell me where to come pick up the old battery, my M620ie has a leaky replacement battery that scares me sometimes
