New Royal Purple micro-glass oil filter

Royal Purple Extended Life Micro-glass Technology Now Available in Consumer Oil Filters

MotoIQ Staff Report

Porter, TX (November 3, 2009) — Royal Purple is pleased to announce their line of high performance oil filters which combine advanced micro-glass technology, high capacity and optimized flow characteristics for maximum performance and filter life. Commercial fleets use advanced micro-glass oil filters to extend the life of heavy duty trucks and equipment.  These high tech oil filters use special synthetic glass microfibers about 10 times smaller than conventional cellulose filter fibers to provide superior filtration.  High performance lubricant manufacturer Royal Purple is now bringing this technology to the consumer market.

 Each Royal Purple Filter features:

  • 100% synthetic micro-glass media for superior particle removal with 99% filtration efficiency
  • A high performance silicone anti-drain back valve that prevents dry starts even in extreme conditions
  • A heavy gauge steel back-plate foe maximum burst strength
  • An extra heavy-duty nitrile-rubber base gasket with special lubricity compounds to reduce torque during installation and ensure a leak-free seal
  • Ultra-strength filter housing that provides extra protection against puncture from road debris

Royal Purple oil filters allow change intervals to be extended up to 12,000 miles.   Vehicles still under warranty should follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended filter change intervals.  While Royal Purple filters are fully compatible with all synthetic and conventional oils, Royal Purple recommends using their high performance motor oil which, also, has a 12,000 mile life.

Royal Purple high performance filters are currently available exclusively at Pep Boys.  The filters will be available at other auto parts retailers this November 2009.

Don't believe the hype. And even the K&N filter is just a Mobil1 filter with a nut on top.

Please present facts and data with supporting references when making a statement like that. I would like to know why this filtering technology is just hype if you could present factual verifiable evidence to the contrary.

You want data on the fact that the K&N and Mobil1 are identical (plenty of tear downs show this) or that I think the Royal Purple is hype?

My royal purple comment is purely my opinion but based on what I see, it does seem to be a decent filter but $15.00 is crazy unless you just don't care about cost.

The filter media does appear to be very good but only a few UOA's comparing it to another filter under proper testing scenarios would prove anything. Based on Royal Purples marketing history I would not believe anything they have to say.

But at 2000-3000 oil change intervals, I will stick with a decent $8-10 oil filter.

Maybe start a thread on our forum and show some links and pics about the mobil 1 and k&n so we can see this stuff, it should be interesting.

@9krpmrx8

I could care less about the "hype" as I run the OEM Mitsu/Denso filters on any of my cars where I actually care about filtration. Then again, it doesn't really matter anyway since:

1. I change the oil at or around 2500 miles in those cars.
2. The bypass opens up and sends unfiltered oil out quite a bit.

Anyways though the nut on the K&N is nice if you want to use safety-wire to hold it in place so the filter won't back off; the '90 oil filter housings with the integrated thermostat and oil cooler lines (on DSM's) seems to have a problem with that.
