Amsoil SEVERE GEAR SAE 250 super heavy duty racing gear oil

Performance
AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® SAE 250 provides performance beyond that possible with conventional gear oil. This AMSOIL custom product offers superior gear and bearing protection, better friction and heat reduction, increased efficiency and extended service life.
Superior Film Strength
Controls Thermal Runaway
Rust and Corrosion protection
Reduced Operating Temperatures
Improved Efficiency
Longer Oil, Seal, & Equipment Life

Temperature Extremes
AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® EP SAE 250 excels in hot and cold temperature extremes. By design, it resists breakdown from high heat, preventing acids and carbon/varnish formation. Their waxfree construction also improves cold flow properties, improving fuel economy and cold weather shifting.

Applications
AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® SAE 250 is primarily for severe racing applications..

Recommended for use in differentials, manual transmissions and other gear applications requiring any of the following specifications: API GL-5, MT-1, MIL-PRF-2105E, Dana SHAES 234 (Formerly Eaton PS-037), Mack GO-J, or the differential (hypoid) gear oil specifications from all domestic and foreign manufacturers such as GM, Ford and Daimler Chrysler. Can also be used in axles where an API GL-4 lubricant is recommended.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® SAE 250 is compatible with most limited slip differentials. If limited slip differential chatter occurs, add AMSOIL Slip-Lock™ friction modifier additive

As a note, we have found that the use of really heavy gear lubricants can reduce rear wheel power levels by 4-8 whp.  This is on NA 4 cylinders with around 200 whp.  We have not seen power losses on high powered turbo cars as the thick lube probably reduces friction by reducing metal to metal contact.  We feel that Amsoil Extreme GEAR SAE 250 will probably react in a similar way.

We will update you on how well this lube works under racing conditions in the future.

Interesting, Redline shockproof both light and heavy have always done me right but I may give this a try.

AMSOIL is pretty good stuff. If it can keep public go-karts ticking for 5 years, then it has to be good. I just wish it was easier to get ahold of.

We will have to give it a try. However on Redlines website, they claim that Shockproof Heavy has a "Film thickness greater than an SAE 75W250, yet low fluid friction like 75W90"

I like Shockproof Heavy. Has saved many a Skyline GT-R transmission. I have Frank from Nissan Motorsports for recommending it to us.

My source is on one of the Nissan off road racing truck teams, he said since they switched from shockproof heavy to this stuff the transmission failure has dropped to zero.

Are you sure this is new to the market? The MSDS sheet for it (Amsoil code SRT) shows a date of 11-7-07! Also is it really GL-4 compatible? Their webpage only says GL-5 despite what this article shows...please find out and let us know, really want to use this in my new P11 tranny.

You could not find information on it right? Also who cares if its not GL4 rated, your syncros are not going to fall apart like some people would lend you to believe. ShockProof isnt even GL rated and I have never had a transmission failurte because of it!

I've got a NISMO LSD in the P11 tranny...would you recommend the AMSOIL Slip-Lock™ friction modifier additive?
