The LS2 fits like it was made to go there.

Surge tank gives a high bleeding point for the cooling system and removes air bubbles from the cooling system to greatly improve cooling.

Fortunately Dai was not seriously hurt but the timing of the accident was at the worst possible time in the FD season. There was only two weeks between round 5 and round six in Sonoma.  Falken and SPD Metalworks pledged that they would have a new car built for Dai in the 14 days before round six.  An almost impossible task but the crew from SPD jumped right in.  Falken had a Nissan S13 shell (240SX) sitting in its warehouse.  Ross Petty had campaigned it the year before and it would make a good base for the new car as it already had a cage and chassis prepped by SPD’s metal master Scott Dodgion.  As soon as the crew got off the plane from Seattle, the old S13 was fetched from Falken and sent to SPD where it was stripped to a bare shell. The clock was ticking and there were only 8 days before Sonoma.  A Chevy LS2 crate motor was sourced and equipped with CNC ported heads with a mild performance cam and dual valve springs.

Stainless headers are thermo wrapped to prevent the floor from getting hot.  Bungs for a wide band O2 sensors used in tuning are in the collectors.

The headers lead to a 3" Y pipe that feeds a 4" stainless single exhaust.  The S13 uses a G-Force 4 speed constant mesh dog engagement straight cut gear racing transmission.  The G-Force has sure lightning fast shifts and has minimal power loss.  The transmission has a nearly infinite number of gear combinations so it can be matched to the engine well.  The engine's power is fed through a McLeod twin disc clutch.  The clutch uses sintered iron pads on the clutch disc but still has a light pedal and smooth engagement.  The clutch has to withstand brutal abuse.

Huge 4" diameter exhaust takes care of the burnt gasses with minimum weight and backpressure.

Big 4" tip is all flow no rice!

Page #3 - Didn't mention that this car is using a rear S14 sub frame. The diff cover is an OEM Nissan VLSD cover and not Greddy (in the pic).

Page #6 - The 2009 FD rules do not allow relocating suspension mounting 'pick up points'. Changes to the 2009 rules 8.3.2 and 8.3.4 prohibit moving pickup points from the stock location and also prohibit modifications (cutting, welding, strengthening) factory crossmembers/subframes.

Vehicles that had vehicle ID's issued by FD prior to 2009 (like this Falken S13) are still accepted and grandfathered in allowing cars with the old 1" relocated pickup points to continue competing.

Mike - THANK YOU for doing these write-ups. Information like this is sorely needed to help the armature drifters learn how to modify their cars properly so they actually work. It also adds legitimacy to the sport by showing non-drifters that drifting is just as technical and as valid an engineering exercise as any other form of motorsport.

So... How do you think this car would do in Time Attack trim? What changes would be necessary in your view?
