Cloverfield If you like X-files, Lost, and that kind of mysterious suspenseful stuff then you need to go and watch Cloverfield. Just drop whatever it is you are doing now and go watch it. It's the best damn movie I've watched in a couple years. Two thumbs up, five stars, 10 out of 10, supercalifragilisticexpialioditous, whatever. Just go freakin watch it.
Imagine all of the mystery and suspense...

Tiesto
A couple months ago I went to a Tiesto concert at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Electronic music is alive and well with glow sticks and bottled water. The show was 100% sold out so there were a LOT of people there. Was it good? Yeah when Tiesto played his more popular songs it was cool, but in general I think he's WAY over rated. People go crazy over his music. Some of his songs aren't bad, but Jesus Christ, it's trance - IT ALL SOUNDS THE SAME! The crowd was definitely a little older (no candy ravers) and there was a bit more of the Hollywood crowd than other DJs' concerts. After he ran out of popular songs, he played what any DJ could play. You could call it Junk Trance beca...

Tuner Maxx
The word "tuner" has really gotten to me. It's so over used and played out and it's not even a mainstream word. The word "tuner" is like Timbaland producing pop music - wack. Of course Timbaland is making millions so I don't blame him for selling out. Anyway, so this past weekend I was up in San Francisco visiting the city and my friends Phil and Robby from 360 Video. More on this trip later, but I went to Amoeba Records on Haight Street and I was browsing through the Electronic music section and I ran into this compilation series called "Tuner Maxx". There were slammed spo-com style BNR34 GT-Rs on the covers. The Skyline is far from a "tuner" car - it's a world class sports ...

LP to MP3 plus TORQ
I decided to transfer some vinyl records I had to mp3 so I could put some of the tracks on my Ipod. This is actually quite a task because there's a ton of records to go through. I've had a pair of Technics 1200's for a long time, but I've been lazy in transferring the records to mp3 because you can download most songs. Now that new music more or less sucks ass and I've run out of music to download, I'm starting to dig through the crates. Literally. Anyhow, I started the search for the perfect software to carry out this daunting task of LP to mp3 transfer. The coolest, easiest to use, and fully featured software I found was Cool Edit 2000 v1.1. It's an old version of Adobe's Aud...

Karaoke
I was looking through some pics and I found some pics of the time we were partying at the Tajima house. I rented a Karaoke machine for the night and it has like 20,000 songs in English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Filipino, etc. For those of you who don't know, Mike Ferrara the publisher of D-Sport Magazine and my good friend, is a hardcore karaoke enthusiast. I am too, but only when I'm drunk. You guys should try it some time: get hammered and then sing! It's funner than you think. Trust me, I was a non-believer at one time too. Karaoke is like the national past time in Japan. You can't walk a block in the city without passing a karaoke place. If a whole nation digs it, you g...

Mashups
I've been severely lagging on blog entries. I've been busy with other stuff so I just haven't had much time. Anyhow, so I've been listening to random downloaded mp3s that fall into a category called mashups. I'm sure it's nothing new to the djs and party people out there, but I figured I would introduce some sites anyway. Mashups are basically mixed songs that djs get creative on take a beat from one song, maybe a rhythm or bass line from another, then vocals from another and mix it all up. Some are cool, some are wack, but mostly they are kind of creative. Check'em out: Party Ben mashups [Read the rest of this article...]

LA is fun at night Man was this last weekend dope. Friday night I went to a bar in Torrance with my friend Daniel. If I remember correctly, there was quite a bit of tequila, jack daniels, moet, and dom perignon involved (Daniel is a baller). I got home at 7:30am after some breakfast at Denny's. Now that was a dope night.... I was able to somehow wake up on Saturday and get some paper work done. Then I took a nap and then Saturday night began. It started with a trip to club Circus in Hollywood where my high school buddy, Paris (so named before Ms. Hilton was big shit), did a DJ set from 11-1...

Morrissey
I got my tix to the Morrissey concert at the Hollywood Bowl on June 8. I'm excited about this concert because The Smiths are one of my favorite bands of all time. Of course the Smiths are broken up, but the genius of Morrissey and Marr's songwriting must now be experienced only through Morrissey these days and Morrissey is still pretty damn good. I wish I was old enough to have experienced The Smiths in concert, but oh well. The Smiths existed only between 1982-87, but in that short time they released 4 of the best records in the world. Yes, you younger people, I said records. The first Smiths CD to be released was "Strangeways, Here I Come" in 1987. I saw Morrissey ba...
