When we last left project EVO IX we had just tried out the most basic bolt on mods and ended up being pretty pleased with the results, picking up nearly 30 whp from stock with just a few hours of work including dyno time. Drivability was improved as well making our experience a win win situation

The first ever composite fuel rail for Mitsubishi’s Evo VII-IX is here. Skunk2’s Composite Fuel Rails are made using a proprietary carbon-impregnated, aerospace thermo-polymer composite—a material that’s 33-percent lighter and 60-percent stronger than aluminum. Skunk2's composite material insulates fuel from both radiant and conductive heat transfer underneath the hood, resulting in more horsepower and torque. The composite material has ultra low thermo conductivity so underhood heat is not transfered to the fuel resulting in fuel temps up to 100-degrees F cooler when compared to aluminum. This results in denser fuel and greatly reduces the chances of vapor lock, crfitical when volitile running fuels with a high alcohol content.

If you are tuning your EVO VII-IX you were probably wondering what was up with the designers of the 4G63’s intake manifold. It has a tiny plenum for the amount of power that the engine is capable of producing, even with the stock turbo. At MotoIQ, we saw significant gains in power on our project EVO VIII with an experimental crudely made modified stock manifold with an enlarged plenum. We also saw significant bottom end losses and increased lag so we axed that project.

At MotoIQ headquarters, it’s no secret that we love the EVO VIII. To us it’s one of the best-balanced all around car we have ever driven for any price. It has reasonable power with tons of upgrade potential for its well developed bulletproof 4G63 engine. The killer engine is one thing but the best thing about the EVO is its handling. The EVO just flat out rocks, there are very few cars that are so easy to drive hard at the limit.

The venerable Mistsubishi EVO is a known commodity in the tuning world. It seems that wherever you look you see EVO’s and it also seems, at least in our Southern California locale that a stock EVO is about as common as a Ferrari Enzo. The EVO IX was the final evolutionary development of the superb, destined to become a classic CT9A chassis which includes the EVO VII, VIII and IX. The features that define an IX are the changes made to the legendary 4G63 engine to make it even better than its predecessors.

If you are into cars, it’s inevitable that your nice shiny new ride will accumulate its share of ugly and annoying dents and dings no matter how careful you are when parking. Even the stored garage queen is not immune to this sort of damage. Some of you have kids, some have crowded garages full of stuff that falls over. Some of you have spouses or SO’s that think your obsession with cars is dumb and park the car any old where when you are not around.

From the second we first drove an EVO VI on loan from Mitsubishi 8 years ago, we have been in love with the EVO series of cars. The small relatively light 4-Door sedan reminded us of another favorite car. It was lot like a super tuned Turbo Sentra SE-R but with it's 4WD drivetrain, it could actually put the power to the ground at high boost. Unfortunately the EVO was not available for sale in the USA.

EVO X Finishes 24 Hours at Silverstone
Congratulations to Ecutek, ADR Motorsports, Ralliart UK, and all others involved for finishing the 24 hour Britcar race at Silverstone with a completely stock engine. Here's an email from David at Ecutek: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ecutek are pleased to be able to announce it's involvement in the Official Mitsubishi UK race programme.
