Let's not beat around the bush. These are the hard numbers; 58 cars started the 2012 Rolex 24 at Daytona. The winning margin in the Daytona Prototype class was 5.198 seconds. The winning margin in the GT class was 9.412 seconds. The 50th Rolex 24 at Daytona lived up the hype and was a slugfest – literally and figuratively – from start to finish.

This is difficult. American Robby Gordon had such an incredible shot at winning The 2012 Dakar Rally. The overwhelming might of the Volkswagen team was gone. Gordon's Team Speed Hummers were among the fastest in the event. The fact that they were RWD and they were running with or, even, outrunning the AWD Minis on the stages is a testament to Robby's development skills, his driving prowess and his sheer, staggering nerve to believe he could stare down the BMW/MINI brigade and beat them at their own game. Just stunning.
There's no way to describe The Dakar Rally other than to say it's an adventure. In every definition of the word and concept, it's an adventure. It's even an adventure to follow. Sure there's enormous competition between man and machine but the largest competition is between man and the elements, the actual matrix in which the competition takes place. There's nothing like it in the competitive world. Not even the Tour de France experiences such extremes in competition with entrants and competition with the environment.

Super Lap Battles Finals 2011 - FXMD NSX & Tyler McQuarrie Break Overall Time Attack Record
By Laura Heng
For many of the top time attack teams the wait for November's Super Lap Battle is a lot like waiting for Christmas to arrive. Early in the year the teams set their sights on a target lap time to beat and have all year long to develop and fine tune their race cars to hit those targets. Super Lap Battle (SLB) is an invite only event and by tradition the event is held the first Wed after SEMA in November. November also happens to feature weather that is just about perfect for record breaking. This year was no exception and we saw more than a few high profile time attack records fall.
