Technobabble - Rotard Heaven
by Dave Coleman
For about a decade, the rotary engine looked ready to take over the world. Dozens of companies were developing the powerplants in an effort to exorcise the rotary's demons and realize the potential of its simple concept and compact proportions. Almost all of them failed, and the whole exercise was relegated to a historical footnote.
Here, in a small museum about an hour south of Frankfurt, is a glimpse into just how big and complex that footnote should be.

Intro By Mike Kojima, Story By Antonio Alvendia
I have known the Bergenholtz brothers for most of my adult life starting in the late 80's when I used to see them at the street races. They were the younger generation of LA street racers, Ron was the crazy one (who I consider to be the funniest guy in the world) and Ed the quiet one. The brothers stuck together and were the up and coming fast guys.
The Brothers were pioneers in the Sport Compact Racing world, Ron, the Mad scientist, always thinking and innovating with Ed doing the driving. The Bergenholtze's conquered the import drag world, winning with heart and hard work against the GM corporate juggernaut that had them squarely in their sights. They have a bunch of Wally's sitting in the living room, I would die for just one. Now the brothers are heavily involved with the Pro Formula D drift scene with the blue RX-8 that gets crazy angle with Justin Pawlak at the wheel. Sometimes Ed drives the car in time attack events as well.
Earlier in the week the Bergenholtze's were inducted into the NHRA hall of fame, where the original Bergenholz Racing Wicked CRX will be on display. I am so proud of these guys, they represent us, the true believers of Sport Compact Racing. Click on the links to read what our friend Antonio Alvendia of MotorMavens.com has to say about the event!
