World Time Attack Challenge 2011 Pro Class Controversies

The Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC) 2011 was a massive success for the promoters, competitors, fans, sponsors, and vendors alike. Ian, Nathan, Kyle, the announcers, and the volunteers who all make up the World Time Attack Challenge and Superlap Australia successfully put on the best damn Time Attack event anywhere in the world to date! Cosworth releases 4G63 Stroker Kit

A high power Mitsubishi 4G63 engine places enormous amounts of stress on various engine components including the heart of the engine, the crankshaft.  Cosworth has engineered a 94mm (2.2L) crankshaft that is 50%-80% stronger in critical areas than typical aftermarket parts.

Cosworth's 400th Subaru Engine

In 2006 Cosworth started the Performance Parts business based out of the Torrance, CA Champ Car and Formula Atlantic engine build and test facility. Today the product line has expanded to form a self sustaining stand alone business with a world wide customer base. With Subaru engines and components being the most popular product line, on May 19, 2011, Cosworth built its 400th Subaru engine.

Turbo: Once Round the Block

Two videos after the jump of the development process of the 1986 Cosworth GBA 1.5L V6 engine. The video also covers the development of the ECU and car, but what interested me more was the 4 cylinder Cosworth BD that was built as a tester on the engine dyno and its failure mode. This was before the time of CAD, FEA, CFD, and all that computer mumbo jumbo. 25 years ago it was all about your past experience and empirical testing which is a lot closer to how things are done in most parts of the tuning parts market today.

Cosworth XFE ChampCar Engine on Dyno

Cosworth's last CART/CCWS engine revs to 12,000rpm on the engine dyno with glowing headers and all. A 2.65L V8 that revs to "only" 12,000rpm with approximately 7.5psig of boost = 750bhp.
