Global Time Attack - 2011 Season Finale at Infineon Raceway - Nov 11-12, 2011

by David Karey

Global Time Attack wrapped up their 2011 schedule this past weekend with the season finale at Infineon Raceway in Northern California. Teams brought out some of the quickest time attack cars and drivers in North America, with hopes of setting new track and class records.

Global Time Attack paddock
The GTA paddocks are looking more and more like a big production as the series progresses.

Impressive times were recorded in the wet on Friday, but teams weren't getting their target results and times due to the conditions. In addition to the wet, some mechanical issues struck a few teams, including Adam Aquino's Subaru which had a valve contact a piston thereby ending his weekend, and Tony Szirka's EVO which developed some transmission issues.

 Luke Lonberger Blu 808 corvette
Luke Lonberger in the Blu 808 Corvette probably had a hard time controlling the car in the wet. Who knows, he is a drifter. Maybe he enjoyed it?

Adam Aquino
Adam Aquino only got to drive on Friday in the rain. Valve to piston contact forced him to stop running, and kept him from turning anything better than a 2:29.864 lap time.

RAUH-Welt Porsche
Mark Arcenal of Fatlace fame, drove this RAUH-Welt widebody Porsche on Friday. A look at the GTA website shows they did not post any times.

GTA swoops in and saves the TA season... thank you Nads and everyone at GTA. Can't wait for 2012!

Awesome coverage, can't wait for a couple up and close features with some of the drastically reworked TA cars.

Congrats FXMD and LIC! I am looking forward to the next Underdogs episode with a recap of this event.

In my opinion (I admit, I don't know the burocracy behind organizing this type of event), I think that Global Time Attack, Redline Time Attack and Super Lap Battle people should get all together and put up a single series with more participants, teams, cars and all that jazz. That would be cool. Bigger budget = more track events = more exposure for the sport.

^^^Agreed. And some expansion to the East Coast or at least further East would be nice as well. Maybe they can pick up MPTCC (again) while they're at it.

Looks like it was a good event. I really hope GTA blows up big time. Damn, I wish I was there with a certain red and black EVO...

Great article and pics! Wish I was there...

Redline is defunct (again) but I think GTA and SLB have discussed the possibility of having a love child together of sorts. With Nad's GTA/BTA libations, anything is possible... ;-) Together or not, GTA and SLB are both great events in the world of TA.

AFAIK, GTA has announced about 5 races for next year with 4 on East coast and a few more TBA. 1st race is end of April at BW I believe.

EH, get that chick named Christine back out there, we miss her!!!

Good end to the season. I'm looking forward to finally getting involved next year. I need to go find the dates for the events.

Props again to David for the event coverage!

If I understood GTA's schedule last night for 2012, TWO of the events (Road Atlanta & NJ) will be tied to Formula Drift weekends (I think?), which will be HUGE for time attack! Oh, and we all want the FXMD, SSE, GST, Cyberevo showdowns :)

mxpop: I miss her too! Unfortunately I don't think we'll see Christine any time soon in the near future.

For the record, Cosworth doesn't build cars. It was just several of us who work there considering to build one. But no, we aren't anymore. We figured that even if the car were to break records and win events, too many people would bitch about the fact that it is nearly a race car already. We've decided on another platform so stay tuned on MotoIQ for an update on Beyond the Dyno!

Eric - I swear there was a BTD this morning 6:30ish and then it disappeared! Man, I'm REALLY hoping we get to find out about this other decided upon platform SOON. I was excited to see you guys prove the MR platforms could follow through on being the ultimate handlers as we've discussed in the past (FXMD has stepped it up with the NSX though) but I'm excited for the future nonetheless! PS It'd be really cool if it was a platform I could actually fit it ;) PPS Wes has gotta be bummed about not seeing you guys do an Elise.

I do believe that if Christine was at Buttonwillow 1st place would have been a whole different story, but all I can do is imagine...

You guys will be the first to hear once the other TA program is official.

Yeah BTD will be up again late tonight. I think the editor in chief wanted some content for tomorrow. Be sure to click the LIKE button when it's up!

Big Ron J. will be @ BW in April with GTA event! Christine is welcome to come and try to regain its only track record to the day. However this event doesnt require that DOT BS rule on tires! Big Ron like them ladies on slicks:)
