Early in the morning was a parade of Mitsubishi lining up to get in. The MOD staff did an excellent job keeping the lines despite the clusterfcuk of cars piling up on Holder St.

Waiting in line was this 1G Eclipse GSX on Hoosier slicks. This may not be a big deal to you guys in the other 49 states, but it takes some balls to do this with the Nazi cops we have here in Southern California.

Mitsubishi Motors North America hosts MOD on their own corporate parking lot located in Cypress, CA. There are probably around 10 continuous rows like this of enthusiast owned cars from Mitsubishi's history. This particular row is EVO X, Lancer Ralliarts, and standard Lancers.

There were plenty of 1G and 2G Eclipses.

Within the group of 1G Eclipses was another GSX on Hoosier slicks. This one even had a downpipe sticking out of the front bumper. I think I've got a thing for rolling on slicks on the street.

It may have been a little rough around the edges under the hood, but it was purpose built with a half sized Civic radiator, direct port NOS, and some kind of T3/T04E turbo. The owner says he's run 6.85 in the 1/8 mile so far.

Great post! I really wish the east coast would have something like this. You guys out in the west get all the good stuff. I'm jealous.

I agree, they'd be a hit out here. There are small gatherings, but nothing hosted by the OEMs. On Cosworth, I've been looking at their SR20 parts, and they are actually cheaper than most of the other options good out there. For the price, you really can't beat Cosworth, and when I get another SR block, rest assured it'll have Cosworth bearings, HG, and whatever other goodies I can afford.

"I was just protecting my wallet."

Lame. If you don't have the money/time to do something right the first time, when are you going to have the money/time to fix it?

Looks like Mike (not Kojima people) hanging out with his son there in the RRE booth. He and his wife are REALLY cool people. Ditto on the concern for the crowd during the Dyno pulls. I'm with beaters on the price assessment. When I studied over the Cosworth website, MOST parts seemed well within the norm of competitor prices.

Eric - While were looking at 4b11s, I wanted to hit you up on a possible future article or at least paragraph in an article related to something you'd mentioned about a month ago. You'd mentioned it was Cosworth's philosophy not to sleeve blocks, even aluminum ones. I was fascinated as to the reasoning behind it?
PS. Looking forward to how you ended up in a Peugot 306 in SE Asia :)

Vince - I think the saying goes, "It cost twice as much to do it right the second time!"

Yeah the Cosworth stuff isn't too ridiculously priced. I think its mostly the younger buyers who get freaked out. As it is they are working their ass off (or maxing out their credit cards) just to buy some Eagle rods. I think its the natural course of playing with cars where you need to experience trash and the consequences of using trash before you can truly appreciate quality.

Bruce: I should mention that the not using iron sleeves in aluminum blocks comment is case specific and applies only to production cylinder blocks. I'll get into the subject one of these days, but the story might be more trouble than its worth with the negative feedback I will probably get from pro-sleeve people. Keep this in mind: I'm not saying it cannot be done. All I'm saying is that we generally do not subscribe to the concept for production cylinder blocks and in many cases, it simply isn't necessary. Most of the time people need to look elsewhere for the root cause of block cracking failures.

Nice, while you were there at the biggest Mitsu-meet, I was at the first annual "Big Northwest Subaru Meet" here in Washington; it was pretty good, too.

Man, I think you've probably all ready pissed off plenty of people with the truth at this point, why stop now? I say eff 'em, but that's probably just because I'm quite intrigued.

Okay, that i-miev on the first picture is such an eye sore! There, I said it, it's out of my system.

Eric: Something polarizing like that could be EXTREMELY entertaining. Might be interesting to see how much hell a sleeving vs. non-sleeving topic could raise :) Oh, and I was referring to production blocks as well.

I've always had a thing for first gen GSX's and Starion's.
As for the companies having a data base of info for car setups, it is a fantastic idea. Since forums are heavily unreliable, I've looked elsewhere for info and contacted the manufacturers directly instead.
"More Signal, Less Noise"

Question: On the second picture where the cars are lining up, there is a car that looks like a 1st gen Evo; is that a real Evo or are my eyes deceiving me?

Btw, your comment about the dyno cars was funny, how much dollars were lost in the betting process? LOL..

Gotta love some old school (are they officially old school now?) 1G muscle. First car I ever bought and will own one again before the end.

I missed out on MOD again. This time it was because I didn't want to drive from Vegas without A/C in my Colt GT. If I still have the car next year, I will definitely try to go. Maybe with a few upgrades and a 4G63T Datsun 510 along side it.

Very cool of Mitsubishi to host this for their fans! Hopefully they are able to stay strong in the USDM and also continue offering exciting vehicles like the Evo and 1st/2nd gen Eclipses. Even if they discontinue the Evo (nooo!!!), hopefully they find a way to reuse the technology.... I'd take a Ralliart Galant with Evo hardware!

Another plug for Cosworth and their new partnership with Singer Vehicle Design can be found at Autoblog (I'd post the link but am not that good with my phone yet)!

I have been absent for a while and just ran across this. Is there a link to sign up for the 2012 event? I would love to take my modified 94 VR4 down for the week.

I think its first come, first serve. Come early to guarantee your spot. Look out on the Mitsu forums and maybe even MotoIQ for next year's event flyer.
