Oh, wow, they now have the MFD-2, which simply uses the OBD-II port. I might have to get me one of those.

You can always get the original MFD and just hard wire it in.

So I guess that means I can't use the MFD on my pre-OBD American vehicle. Bummer.

How does the original MFD interface to an engine? Does it include all of the necessary sensors or does it use the stock engine sensors?

I swear, ARK's website is nigh worthless.

The original MFD has to hack into the stock ECU wiring harness. For some vehicles, you can buy an adapter harness that goes between the ECU and the main harness. It will then read off all the sensors that the ECU would see. You can add optional sensors for temperature and pressure.

Expect to see a write-up on the MFD2 soon :)

FYI hard wiring a MFD1 actually provides a little faster update rate since it is just reading the analog voltage of a sensor and translating in real time. But it's hard to pass up the quick and easy install of the MFD2 due to the quick plug in install.

But will it work with analog sensors found in vehicles made in other places besides Japan?

Since the product was designed and manufactured in Japan for the Japanese market, I don't think they've gotten around to including US domestic sensors unfortunately.
