The HKS Intercooler Kit for the Nissan GT-R R35 features two lightweight, large capacity intercooler cores, polished aluminum piping and a carbon fiber air duct that greatly improves cooling efficiency. By utilizing two lightweight 400x260x65 mm cores with a new inner fin design, HKS was able to improve efficiency, minimize pressure loss under higher boost levels and reduce front-end weight. Directing airflow to the intercooler cores and radiator, the included carbon fiber air duct is matched to the size of the HKS Intercooler cores. During track testing in Japan, HKS’ GTR maintained stock water temperature levels with the intercooler kit installed. I guess the cf ducting has a lot to do with the price. Also the market segment allows for higher margins I think.

HKS FMICs have always been priced higher than others, but they are also usually the only kits with CARB #s

Are you f'ing kidding me? What a rip off ! Sure the carbon-fancy air duct cost money to mold and bake.....but intercoolers have been doing the same shit since turbo were introduced back in the day. The task remains the same, cool down the freaking air. Sorry, someone lost his mind on this one.....and please don't come up with the "well R&D cost money" excuse, I'm not buying it. We all know that the bigger the I/C, the lower the temp.

That is true JDMized, but the bigger the IC the higher the pressure drop you have inside it( i think... maybe mike can help us out on this one). So the inner design of an IC is essential to minimize the boost losses... So design is a key factor here. In fact it is recommended that if you upgrade IC size, you boost up a couple of psi.... Im not saying this is not realy expensive, and as some said, premium cars... premium margins for aftermarket pars lol...

This is a part for an $80k, low-volume car, not a Sentra, and is absolutely bolt on. As such, it will cost a fortune. Street prices will likely be lower, but not by much.

Honestly the price does not concern me it's worth it. If you can afford a GT-R this should not affect your wallet anyways. What does concern me is that your paying 5k for a kit and they are supplying you with normal worm clamps? FAIL.....

This kit is probably cheaper than replacing the OEM GT-R intercoolers anyway. Looks good I wish someone would build something like this for the 240SX. Most of those kits are a bit dated.

I could see shelling out around 2600 to 3k for that product... Sure it's a bolt-on affair, sure there was probably a little R&D, but regardless of how much the vehicle costs at the end of the day it's just two intercoolers and some piping. I bet these will be very popular on sponsored vehicles or show-cars but other manufacturers will undoubtedly cash in on this :)
