Engineering are firing up the all new FW32 some time tonight. Looking forward to coming in tomorrow to see how it went!

Looks like the CA2010 will fire up for the first time tonight for the Williams F1 team.

Eric,

Any inside scoop from the homeland?

Na, I am not privy to the details of team testing. I do know that the F1 engineers are pretty damn happy with the CA2010 in general though. Power is excellent, engine weight is on target, and fuel consumption is good. All the negative hype about the CA was just a bunch of haterade.

Now its up to the teams to get their shit together. I know Williams will do it right but I hope the other 4 teams will too. It should be an interesting season for Cosworth power.

Luckily USF1 traded in their toasters for the Type 1.

Let's go racing!

I just got a text from one of the F1 calibration engineers. Williams completed a 400km test with zero problems today. That is freakin awesome. Each engine is supposed to last 2600kms but this was definitely the first step of many in the validation process.

I wish Red Bull had gone wth a Cosworth. Williams has had a bit of a difficult time recently, although they remain one of my favorite teams. Its unfortunate that all the Cosworth suppled teams are beset with meager finances.

I just had searched as much as i could looking for details on the test aside from the autosport and speedtv info and whatever google brought, but this is the first mention of the distance of the test and the outcome.  I am assuming that since it was a filming day there will be some videos out at the launch.

In the mean time, here is a vid of a 2009 Red Bull with the Cossie V10 and some snow tires.  Promoting the 2010 Montreal GP.

Ben, my friend in F1 calibration (and master of TAG ecus from his Prodrive WRC days), was just happy all of his hard work has paid off these last two months. He and other engineers have been on the dyno for 6 days a week and 12+ hours/day and was super stoked the test went trouble free because their hard work resulted in a smooth test. He was the one who told me the test was 400km. I'm pretty sure it was a private test.

According to the description it is a Cossie V10.  I would have to believe this is true as Cosworth is probably one of the few manufacturers that would take the risk to run a car under 50° F ambient.  Just a guess of mine, but it is in fact a Cosworth engine.

That's a Red Bull show car with a Cossie V10

"Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Sébastien Buemi drives the Red Bull Racing running showcar in an exclusive winter session on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and an incredible ice run on the frozen waters of northern Quebec. The car, a 10 cylinder, Cosworth-powered STR1, was fitted with a one-of-a-kind set of Bridgestone Potenza F1 snow tyres and featured 420 tungsten studs on each of the front and 588 studs on each of the rear tyres, each one embedded in an aluminium casing."

Its not a 2010 spec Cosworth engine. 2010 F1 specs: http://www.f1technical.net/articles/4

The 2010 Red Bull is powered by a V8 Renault. http://en.espnf1.com/redbull/motorsport/story/5176.html?CMP=OTC-RSS

I think we are mixing up a couple of things. Mark was looking for video of the Williams/Cossie V8 test, finding none he said "In the mean time, here is a vid of a 2009 Red Bull with the Cossie V10 and some snow tires. Promoting the 2010 Montreal GP.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luBIaBXM4iU" Hence we have video of an Red Bull RB1 with a Cossie V10.

Clear as mud?

When they switched from Cosworth to Toyota, they had two paddock spaces at the track and compared the two powerplants and said the Cosworth was faster as well at that time back in what 2006.

Hulkenberg in the Williams Cosworth had the fastest lap of the day. There isn't that much difference between F1 and time attack after all!

Cosworth Conclude Testing

Cosworth concluded its pre-season testing programme at the
Circuit de Catalunya in Spain on Sunday having accomplished all
of its objectives ahead of the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.

Cosworth-powered cars have totalled a cumulative 11,336km, or 2,547
laps, over the four official pre-season tests in Valencia, Jerez and
Barcelona with AT&T Williams, Lotus Racing and Virgin Racing all taking
to the track powered by Cosworth's CA2010 V8 engines.

Last week's four-day Barcelona test saw the culmination of the
pre-season testing programme with Cosworth taking great   satisfaction
from   the   continued   reliability   and   performance   of   the
CA2010.   AT&T   Williams   driver   Nico Hulkenberg topped Friday's
timesheets with a best lap of 1m20.614s, less than
two-tenths-of-a-second shy of the fastest lap of the entire Barcelona
test.

After two rain-affected sessions in Jerez, all teams enjoyed better
weather conditions in Barcelona, although still far from perfect, with
some rain affecting running on Saturday. Cosworth is now working closely
with each of its teams in
preparation   for   next   week's   Bahrain   Grand   Prix,   the
opening   round   of   the   2010   FIA   Formula   One World Championship.

General Manager of Cosworth's F1 Business Unit Mark Gallagher: "The
Barcelona test brought to a satisfactory conclusion Cosworth's
pre-season testing activities, our overall targets having been met with
a particular emphasis on proving the durability of the CA2010 and
developing solid working relationships with each of our
customer teams. These were pivotal weeks for us, and it is of great
credit to our design, development, manufacturing, build, test and track
support staff that our return to the F1 circuit has started positively.
There is much work to come, of course, and busy days ahead of us as we
prepare with our teams for the Bahrain Grand Prix."

AT&T Williams Technical Director Sam Michael: "Cosworth have done a
great job getting the CA2010 race ready over the past four tests.
It's been an intensive schedule for everyone, but Cosworth have
met the challenge and delivered everything we needed them to. We're
satisfied with their development rate and the work they've done on the
integration of the engine with the chassis. They've done a particularly
good job with reliability as well."

The engineers are pretty damn happy with the engines. Internally, I hear nothing but good news.

With no refueling this year, the big concern seemed to be about fuel consumption. I hope things work out well.
