If it races, I like it. It doesn't matter what it is.
I've been reading almost every article I have time for, and I'm enjoying them. The Scion cage build was almost like the last cage build and a lot of cars seem to be in similar stages prepping for racing so it's getting a little repetitive. Though there were scion specific problems with the cage that readers will appreciate I'm sure.

Maybe it needs a drift charm to make it more personal...

I can't believe with all of the success the DG Spec Scion has in all sorts of racing, there is no love from the Scion community. They just like show cars. When we tried to cross post, hardly any of them came here, none looked at anything and they don't even look at or follow project scion which is our least popular project vehicle.

I really think Scion fans don't care about anything but show cars, ICE and cheapo wheels and aero kits.

I just read the latest race summary. I feel like I'm out West searching for gold and reading the newspaper every chance I can get to see how the New York World's Fair went, or how the baking industry is doing, or how the presidential election is going. It's like I'm so starved for good racing I can imagine myself there by reading the coverage. It's quite the feeling.

The scion kids don't know what they're missing.

Is there any easy way to get video of these races?

Even our scooter builds get 2or 3x more traffic than poor old project Scion.

That's really unfortunate. I've seen the Scion at the last two 25 hour races. They really do quite well. The 2008 wreck and rebuild was simply epic.

Scion's core market is not hardcore car folks.

They are a lot of Scion enthusiasts, a Scion meet draws thousands. I went to one meet and I swear there must have been 4-5000 people there, about as many as Formula D. Thousands of cars as well, nearly all modded.

Typically they are slammed to the ground on cut springs or some sort of cheapo lowering springs, drilled rotors, some sort of air intake, some sort of exhaust, some sort of cheap wheels. Then thousands spent on ICE, aero, chrome in the engine compartment, tacky interior mods and custom paint.

Its an interesting dichotomy.

Interest in the car as a statement platform, but not motorsports.

Well to be fair if you're into motorsport would you go looking to Scion for a platform? =/
They have to be towards the bottom of the barrel.

I'm not saying they couldn't dominate if set up well in a class that makes them competitive. But you have to realize that the general buying public with $10k-$20k in their pocket looking for a performance oriented car won't likely have Scion on their list at all.

It seems like the DG Spec cars are highly competitive in every form of racing they have been in from NASA PTD, PTC to endurance racing, to now world challange. Probably means that the TC isnt too shabby of a package, wouldent you agree?

I must not be making my point very well. Scion appears to be successful in motorsports, but the common buyer doesn't reflect that in the modifications that they pursue.

Mike I'm not familiar with the rules for those classes of racing. Do the rules have weigh penalties or other methods of leveling the playing field? If so, are the Scions saddled with the lion's share of weight/restriction (AKA superior) or do they benefit from the other cars being forced to carry the weight (AKA inferior)?

Like I said, I have no doubt they are or can be competitive in motorsport (I mean I'd have to be an idiot to say otherwise) but when I think about the general buying public and what they'd do with that kind of money if they are interested in a performance car they'd have used S2ks and WRXs and E36 BMW M3s and new Miatas and 2nd gen MR2s and countless others they'd have to say no to before they took at look at a Scion. No?

And then if they are interested in looks, ICE, rice, etc. then I see them leaning towards the VWs, Scions, etc.

For every one competetive VW there have to be 100 slammed, kitted, hella flush, roofracked, ICE'd out piles running around. Sadly Scion got lumped into that scene. I'm sure the guys racing VWs feel your pain. =)

Scions don't need a weight penalty, the car is really heavy. The TC is built like a brick shithouse! It wieghs as much as my EVO with no four wheel drive or turbo!

A few guys at the local shop have some pretty quick turbo'ed Scions. They love their cars. Amazingly, most of them run the automatic and not a stick. They just change the valve bodies and the tranny is fine. That surprised me because generally Japan's autos are fairly weak.
