Wow, I thought you were running a 4G63. When did you decide to go with an Indycar based 4 cylinder? And what are you going to do for a block? |

The reason for the new thread was because a lot has changed since I first started building this car. This past year I realized weight is a big deal and wanted to go with an aluminum motor. I have also wanted to design and build my own motor so when I got frustrated finding the right motor I decided this car would have a custom motor. I have an idea of what I want but I need to just sit down and start planning. Luckily this head's bore spacing is only a quarter millimeter off of what the Sbc is so hopefully that will simplify some things like liners and crank. Everything else will be finding something proven and getting it to work. The block will be machines from billet most likely. I I had more than 2 of these heads I might consider casting.

WOW! Please share details of the motor design/construction as you go along. I admire you for having the knowledge, skill and balls to take on a project like this. Since you are doing so much custom work, are you using the Eclipse body just for sentimental reasons? |

Balls maybe, the rest....wait until its successful. Im keeping the 1g body because its straight and rust free, has the PPIHC legal cage that fits really tight, and yes im a huge fan of pop up head light dsm's. It pains me to cut it up even more but oh well. I really like the profile and it seems like just the right size for me and i have put alot of miles behind 1g's so im just really comfortable in them. Not like that really matters but oh well. I thought about putting all of this time and effort into another shell but i like what i have. My first car was a 1ga and in the past 10 years i have always had at least one. |

Rally Bob it is a Daily Pump, good eye! I have been pretty busy with starting my business and getting my CNC up and running. Spent a good amount of time doing research on the engine and i have made some headway. Have selected some sleeves and decided to cut the crank myself from 4140 most likely then i will get it ground at a reputable crank grinder. Still have alot of details left to sort out like bearing sizes and block construction techniques(have some people i will be contacting soon to ask some questions.) Put about an hour in with the car. Took off all of the panels on the front and started to cut the front end off. Got the drivers side cut through and will finish the other side tomorrow. Then i will probably cut out the floor and firewall. Next big purchase will probably be a front and rear tire so i can draw it up in the computer to model things. Things should speed up though once the cnc is running. |

Hah, missed this at first. I like the idea, and rather envy the CNC machining centers... trying to work up to castings myself, but that's a slow process. Where'd you get the uprights? |

Got the uprights from 2 Indycar teams. You can actually still buy them new from Dallara still.....Might try to in a few years when they are worth even less lol. I was really busy with other projects so i haven't had much time to spend on my car. I decided to cut the front off and will probably cut out the floor and firewall soon so i can start working on the central part of the chassis. I need to order some tires since the closest Hoosier tire place is about 3 hours away. Going to go with the 09110, and 08410 from hoosier. Once i get in one of each i can model them on the computer and this will help get my computer model going since the tires are not exactly easy to dimension. Should probably start work on designing the modifications to the"front" uprights since the current pickup points won't work at all lol. |

Hmmm... I'll have to keep an eye out on the normal classified places. After another weekend being confronted with the weaknesses of racing stock unibody cars, and realizing that rally stuff isn't really much of an option with tow distances, I'm starting design of a roadrace car... and it would be ever so nice not to have to use bloody Miata uprights. |
