In the land of turbo upgrades for a wrx/sti, how would you guys rate the quality, reliability and overall perfomace of this turbo both for the street and maybe some HPDE events?

Thanks Mike, trying to help my buddy out with his next car purchase, this would not be our choice for turbo upgrade...the car below scares me for so many reasons...We were going to get an independent compression test done but just found out stock parts are not available (sold) with sale...

As I said to my friend, walk away...

Anyone who puts $20K into a brand new Subaru... should have bought a real car in the first place. Christ, $45K will put your friend into a 09-10 Porsche Cayman
<< Subaru owner, btw

I agree and I also own a Subaru...I'm more concerned with the previous owner than the price tag...IMO, he's $10k easy over ball park, thats obvious...

My friend is looking for something AWD, a car he can use to get up to the mountains in the winter and in the summer have some fun w/ weekend HPDEs...he wont be daily driving the car and he's interested in doing some nice performance upgrades of his own(rather than buying modified car)...$30-$37k price range...we're looking at some S4s, evos, etc...but he's leaning toward the 2011 STI 4 door sedan...

Dare I suggest Carrera4? Might find a '06 in that price range, otherwise a late model 996 C4S will be real easy to find in that range. I've driven RWD 911's through deep snow and nothing stops them, on summer tires even. Especially if he's looking for a second car for fun and track time, a 911 will be more rewarding than a Subie.
