looking for some input from the pros here. I have a rb25 with splitfire coils so i knwo the coils are good. stock igniter chip as well. I am trying to install my J&S Safeguard since I have a power fc which has no knock control. the safeguard is a 4 channel so i've had o wire things into a wastespark setup. now here's where the trouble comes in. the car idles fine, revs fine at idle. but when i go to drive it drives fine at low rpms but the minute i try to give it any amount of boost pressure the car starts sputtering and falls on it's face. i am guessing that dwell times are the issue, but would like some other input on what i could check. i can adjust dwell vs rpm with the power fc, but don't want to start messing around with that if that's not gonna be the issue. any input is greatly welcomed

What's your dwell angle?

In a waste spark at 4000 rpms, you coils are firing twice as often as they would otherwise. So it could be an issue of not enough time for the coils to build a charge, or too little dwell which doesn't give the coils enough time for the field to collapse. You'd get a weak spark which would work at low loads/low RPM but blow out at higher loads. But with individual coils dwell time *shouldn't* be an issue.

Dwell is measured in angle, but is it angle relative to crank or cam on the power FC, the cam rotates at 1/2 the speed of the crank. On a 6 cylinder the separation is 120* crank on firing events or 60* cam. In a wastespark set up the paired cylinders are firing twice as often as they would otherwise. Your dwell time per coil is cut in half, instead of firing every 720* crank rotation it's now firing every 360*. Your dwell to lit time ratio is different now.

But first, without the J&S installed, but the coils still in a wastespark config, does the car still freak out? I'd work that angle first before playing with dwell. That way you can eliminate dwell/coil issues/ignitor issues, or it'll let you know to trouble shoot there first. If it works in wastespark w/o the J&S, it's an issue with the J&S. To trouble shoot the J&S I'd I'd set it to 0 retard and/or run the knock sensor less sensitive. It could very well be the unit and that the algorithm is for a 4 cylinder engine. W/O a schematic I have no clue where to start looking for voltage drop or grounding issues.

I think waste spark systems freak out on engines with a lot of overlap. A long long time ago, we tried to get an electromotive direct coil on plug system to work on a Toyota atlantic engine and it would not run right. That engine had over 100 degrees of overlap on 100 degree lobe centers. It would misss like crazy and shoot fire.
