The thread on:  Thoughts/advice on a new daily driver............

Got me thinking about supercars and enthusiast cars in general.  Here are some random thoughts about (mid 90's) "supercars" and some vast generalizations about the people who spend money on them.

  • Ferrari's like the 348 and Testarossa are more fun to look at than drive.  Owners of these cars are typically at an age where their bodies can no longer squat 4 inches off the ground and limbo into the drivers seat.
  • The 1996 Porsche 996 Turbo is simply awesome.  Owners of these cars are typically doctors who used to own VW Bugs in their college days and treat the Porsche just as badly.
  • 1997-2004 Lotus Esprit V8 is probably a great car if your a short Englishman.  (Owners) are 40-something that still date 20-somethings and trade their Lotus Esprit in for an Audi A4 1.8T because they just raced a Ferrari F355 on the freeway and the Police decided to go after the bright red Ferrari.
  • BMW's 850CSI is a great GT cruiser.  The v12 and the starter that bring it to life make the hair on my neck stand up.  Owners tend to think this car is really fast when actually its a big fat pig.  They also tend to trade them in for Ferrari's on this list so they can date women who go after guys in Lotus Esprit(s).  They should have just bought the Lotus.
  • Driving a 1990(era) Corvette ZR1 with Nitrous must be like riding on a rocket powered train.  In both cases the throttle is the only thing that much control over the vehicle.  Owners who aren't drug dealers probably look like your typical Corvette owner, only with more money.
