Its only on the thrust surfaces, the rest of the bearing surface looks fine.

Measured thrust at .007. I'm wondering if the builder got into the copper when setting the thrust within tolerance. Seems strange.

Did you change to a stronger clutch recently?

Its a 5.5 double disc Quarter Master setup.

Its the only clutch ever used on the engine.

Finally going to the ultimate solution allowed in our class. A belt driven Petersen external wet sump pump. Just have to build the brackets and figure out the drive belts. Enough trying to doctor up an under-engineered OEM solution.

Will do. Finally received the pump. We're in the process of picking pulleys for the crankshaft drive and oil pump. Standard 5/8ths shaft 3/16ths key. Yet again we seem to be pioneering, what a pain. As soon as we have the pulleys in hand we'll build the brackets.

Funny how time flies.  Last July I was in an auto accident that pretty much wiped me out for the remainder of the year. But,  I'm back on my feet and making plans.  In February, I'll take out our track Miata and see if I can handle the strain to the neck and back, I hope it works out well.

So, I'm putting together a 2 year plan to get to NASA nationals in 2013. They are supposed to move back west that year, and we'd like to attend. If I can't drive, my buddy Geoff is working on getting his license.  If that doesn't happen, then I'll find someone to drive the car. However, with some more PT, I should be ready by then.

The rules have changed for American Iron, mostly due to complaints about the inability to police the Ford racing ABS that was developed for World Challenge and other Ford factory racecars.  This gives our non-ABS car a rwhp/rwtq break.  And I have a number of questions about how best to use that potential advantage. I'll post in the appropriate sub-forum when the time comes.

The short term goal is to get the replacement street car finished, then I'll bring the race engine home and get to making the oiling modifications.

Stay tuned.

Bob

Thanks, but no.  I have 5 of them.

We also bought a full 2011 3.7 V6 Mustang drivetrain: engine, 6-speed, all the electronics, most of the exhaust and driveshaft.  But we were really disappointed to find out that it was about 100lbs heavier, fully dressed, than the specs we'd been reading.  The power curve would be great, but I think we'll give the turbo-4 one more drive.

Now I just need to get it back on the track! I need to finish the engine mods and rebuild the transmission. Time flies.
