I'd like to do some articles on my mk4 golf TDI to add additional diversity but my time has been directly focused on our virtual home here.
TDI Golf? Sounds like a prospect for a turbo upgrade
No kidding there. I chipped the car to compensate from the previous owner short shifting and sooting up the VNT vanes on the turbo. With sooted vanes the car sometimes goes into limp mode. I've tried every other fix as recommended on Freds TDI page and had Leonard (ace TDI mechanic) at Wild Rose check the car over.
The annoying thing is a key cycle fixes the problem.
Unfortunately upgrading the turbo means also upgrading the clutch and nozzles. The clutch slips in 5th on cold days with just the chip. The ultimate goal is 50 mpg and tire shreading torque. The car only has 116K so its still a baby diesel.
