guys i need you help. i have a altezza sxe10 and would like to tubo charge this car. i know of the bolt on kits but i rather build the car my own for more power. i was thinking about using the 2jzgte pistons and rings along with the 3sgte rods and bearings. i have to do some machining to the piston and the rods. i am still using my stock main bearings. i will be changin the vavle springs and seals only. i will be using arp head studs and also stock head gasket. hoping to have 9:6.1. i am having problems selecting the right turbo for this application, i would like to have 300hp the the wheels(300whp). well as for manifold i cant find any as yet. i wil be using 1000cc injectors and also the supra fuel pump, that for the engine. i will be usind a aem stand alone ecu for the car along with other guages etc. i also was thinking to get the aem wather/methonal kit to reduce the temperature i the air intake. so i will have more power.

all i need now is the help in the turbo and advice if my project is going good.

300whp will not need 1000cc injectors just so you know and if you are tuning it yourself can be a little tedious to get the idle smooth.

The Evo3 16g would be a good candidate, they are cheap and easy enough to locate depending on your location.

If you can be bothered to build a twin scroll manifold (personally i find the collectors a pain in the ass to make) then the later 7/8/9 Evo turbo's would be a great choice as well.

Every now and again i see an Apexi turbo manifold on yahoo japan auctions. If you have access to a decent fabricator you could just get it made up.

@GCM i think the GT2863r is too small since i need 300whp. i will have to get a turbo that produce soem where around 450hp max.

so guys the plan that i have is that good? or do i need to change any items listed?
well i was thinking to buy the turbo that will be best for the application. i have no further plans after i build this altezza. that will be enough power for the roads i have in my country. i live in guyana. south america.
i review garrett turbo and the best one that i see is within the safe limits is the GT2876R AND the GT3071R. both are up to 480hp max.
what do you guys think? also ther are so meany options. i get headake to understand. can you help me with those housing and turbine size. below is Garrett web.
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/turbochargers
checks and advice please.
so my rebuild sound good?

the 2JZ pistons can work and if you get them free then yeah sure why not. You will have to machine the valve reliefs and the small end of the rod. If you think you have someone that can do it reliably then go for it. I would just buy eagle rods and a set of toda or custom JE pistons if i chose to do it.

I know Horatio Brown goes down there quite a bit so you may want to look him up for tuning. The AEM is an unproven entity with the Dual Beams. Can it work? Yes. Will there be a learning curve? yes. I have a power FC and if you dont mind keeping the MAF it could work just fine.

both those turbos you listed will work well for your power goals. But do you want response or top end? I would want response and maybe go with the smaller turbo.

@ GCM thank a lot for the information. yes i am getting it free. lol i have to machien the skirt for the oil jets and the rod at pin end. i might have to ship the piston to the states to have it machined and balance. yesh Brown come here a lot. he will be the guy that will tune the car. i am hoping to have it build before he comes so i can have it tuned.i have the AEM ems4.
i dont understand this part "Will there be a learning curve? yes. I have a power FC and if you dont mind keeping the MAF it could work just fine. "
i would like to have good responce and also to have my 300whp.
so what turbo do you advice? what are the prows and conds behind this. so do i need to a module to control the fuel too?

I'm not being insulting but you sound like you have done about half the research that you need to do. The cam system is fairly complex on the altezza and i don't know if Horatio has done an AEM install with an AEM before. It could be quite involved and you will need to get some extra sensors if you want to get rid of the MAF system. I was saying that I have a Power FC on mine and it is a simpler system to tune as it plugs right in, but you are tied to using the MAF.

If i were you i would take a step back and REALLY look at what it will take to turbo an altezza PROPERLY. I started down this road and decided against it.

@GCM your statemen is not insultive. i am thankful for your comment since u have done this project already. its a big help to me. from what you have said and to what i understand so far, the only problem i have is to select the correct turbo and a proper electronic.
bro that why i asking you because this will be the first ever altezza 3sge turbo project in my country. we have 2 of the altezza with 1jzgte. and some with the 4gen 3sgte engine. so mines will be the first. so basically i am pulling information from experts like you and other forums.
bro what ever advice you are give me is help full. the MAF means MASS AIR FLOW right? ur saying i will have a problem with it if i used the AEM? PM me bro email is sayad55gy@hotmail.com.

The AEm FIC will not work with the Altezza computer, nor will an emanage or any of the piggyback controllers. The Computer learns out all of the tuning. Your only option for PROPER tuning is a full stand alone. So thats either a Power FC for ease, Or a AEM Universal EMS.

If you use the power FC you have to us the Mass Airflow meter. Its not a PROBLEM no. But if you use a AEM ems you can get rid of the restriction.

The power fc will be cheaper because it just plugs in and works.

@GCM thanks a lot bro. so one last thing, do you think 300whp is too much for the 3sge engine? also whats your advice on the turbo which is the best to choose?
i already received my AEM water/methnol injection kit. so i will be running safe.

If you do it correctly then 300 is perfectly fine. The turbo is a bit of a toss up on whether you want instant response or what. If it were me i would go with a GT28RS. Instant spool and response. For a little more top end Probably a 3076. The VVti should make the bottom end still pretty good.

@bob thanks i was readin some forums and u did a project just like this. well i was thinking to go with a Gt2871 or 76. because i would like to have responce. i dont want all the power to be way up to the top because i will be doing drag race some time with the car. so i dont want my boost take too long to come in. but if i used the gt30 what RPM do you think my boost will be in? also what about the life of the engine. i dont want to affect my engine life at a early stage, if my boost hp is too much since my engine have to produce around 400hp to give me the 300whp then i will reduce my goal. what do you think?

I really don't know when the boost will come in, look at the spool up times on the evo X as they have similar cam systems and engine size etc and you will get a general idea how it will perform.

The life of the engine will completely depend on how good the parts are that you put in, how well its put together, and how well its tuned. If you slap it together with some junk yard parts and have Busha put the engine together under a zinc shade by a mango tree and tune it with a super AFC....Its gonna blow.

This is not a super cheap project but if you do it right the car should be sweet.

YEAH I KNOW ITS NOT A CHEAP PROJECT. WHITH THE HELP OF MY FRIENDS THAT HOWOCME I AM SAVING A FEW DOLLARS. the 2jzgte and the 3sgte rods and bearings are free. the AEM EMS4 is also free. so that save me tuns of money on my car. i need to ship the pistons and the rod for machaning oversease. the most difficult rignt now is the turbo. i have already desided i will buy a manifold and cut the fland out so i can installed the 3sge flange. as for the intercooler i will be buying a 22psi intercooler for the car due to the size. i wanted topurchase the 32 psi. but its 3" inlet/outlet. so i will be for the smaller one which is 2.5". i justt need better advice on the turbo.

Which manifold are you butchering?

What is a 22psi intercooler? I hope it is not from ebay, they heat soak very easily (personal experience) and in a climate like ours its worth it just to get a proper intercooler.

I know a guy in Suriname with a D40 Navara who got a custom manifold made up locally for it with a V-band GT2860. He bought the materials from the US but had it cut and welded up there.

He got the head flange cut out locally too.

If the AEM cannot control the Dual VVT-i then you would probably have to end up buying cam gears.

To much of a pain in the ass when you can bolt in a 1jzgte with some wiring work but good luck

i am buying the mishimoto intercooler which is been used on the evo10. well i plan to cut a evo x manifold. and installed my flange. weill i did bought the cam gear greddy gears. got both for 200usd. but that optional. yeah i know its better for the 1j how ever is difficult to get here and also i was looking at the weight. but since i get most of the parts free, it was better to do the 3s project. so whats the turbo i need?
i want 300whp.
