What is it about the VTEC mechanism that causes the engine to burn oil? I heard that the old B16/B18s did and the S2000 engines did. I know it uses high pressure oil to actuate the solenoids... Anyway, checked the oil in my S2000 today and it was a quart low (at the L mark on the dipstick) after 2500 miles including one track day and about 30 auto-x runs. From reading some of the S2000 forums, it seems some guys burn as much as 1 quart per 1500 miles.
My boosted SR20 and my Evo never ate any oil. |

Maybe they are just high reving engines? |

If the engine is good its usually slipping out through the pcv valve between the crank case and the intake manifold. Since the oil pressure is so high partially to run the vtec or vtc it atomizes the oil into very fine mist which gets consumed. This is especially true with some synthetic (or semi-syn) oils like Mobil-1 or royal purple. Check your oil often and/or run an aftermarket catch can. That's what I've been reading lately while researching k-series. |

I noticed the 'fine mist' of oil once when I pulled the dipstick after a drive. Interesting.... |

I read that as well. I have not taken my 07 S2000 to the track yet, but I plan on keeping my eye on it. If the synthetic oil is partly responsible for this, then would it be ok to run dino at the track? BTW my SR20 race car never burned oil on the track. |

Naji, I wouldn't worry about swapping to dino oil. I HAVE read that the Honda Challange guys overfill to 6 quarts (from 5) to prevent oil starvation in the corners. This is on cars with sticky tires and suspension. On a purely stock car with stock grip level tires, probably the normal 5 quarts is fine. I just have to make a habit of checking the oil every once in a while now; just a fact of VTEC life. Sort of like how rotaries eat oil, except a little different as they need it to lubricate the seals, and need regular for that. Some people run a secondary oil system for the oil injection system, just for this lubing ,with a proper oil for lubricating, and use regular synthetic in the crankcase. Wow, that was a huge runon sentence.... Anyways, different topic. |

I would continue to run a good syn due to its superior protection and just top it off between sessions. Be careful with S2k at track. I've also been reading about bursting the stock oil filter due to pressure. Guys put 3 clamps on the stock oil filter or run an aftermarket unit. |

I allways run Amsoil and and Amsoil filter. I have never had an issues with them. Filters have a nice flat wide gasket, comparing to the small round oem one. Also the filter is bigger and alows for more filtration area, therefore they can keep the oil bypass closed longer and filter the oil better. Stefan |

What up fellas! Yes, the sr20 guy has Honda Questions. My cousin picked up a 93 civic. What is the body desanation? EG EK, I know DC is for the integra's.
Also, what is the best spring/shock suspension setup for around a grand or so? And what is a complete B18C1 swap runnin price wise these days? ECU, engine, trans, axles, mounts, shift linkage, etc..?
thanks, Jorge |

EG is the chassis. shares suspension with the DC integra. koni sports with swift springs would probably match that budget. i would say $2500 for the full swap... give or take. |
