My apologies if this has been asked and answered elsewhere, but I had no luck in my searches.  Does anyone have a good answer as to whether a lightweight drycell battery is adequate for a modest car stereo?  I don't mean Miatabusa modest, but the standard 4 speakers and a 10 inch sub modest.  The lighter models from Braille run in the 10-20 amp/hours of reserve range and 200-550 cranking amps, but I can find no reliable references to the demands of a small amplifier (frankly, I don't have a very strong idea of what those numbers even mean).  I don't want to overtax a system and have evil electrical fairies eat my face nor do I want a dead battery when I listen to a couple of songs with the car off.  I know very little about electricity, so please keep the answers a bit simple.  Thanks in advance.

No, I would not run any sort of amplified system with a lightweight battery. Get an Optima Yellow Top and mount it in the trunk. It won't cost you all that much weight, and it won't leave you stranded.

Thanks. If it was a race car and weight really mattered, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Tiny batteries just make me feel cooler. Oh, well.

On a street-driven car, I'm not sure the 20 lbs of weight savings a lightweight battery would give you is really worth the hassle. Optima batteries are sealed are are easily mounted in the trunk, which still improves weight distribution.

I don't know what kind of current draw the 10 inch sub and amp aer going to use or what kind of power your alternator puts out . I have a Hawker-genesis battery I also have a 12v electric water pump that runs whil the car is on at all times. It draws 6 amps all the time and I have never had any problems with power yet

Don't run big audio with a race battery.
