bazza Yesterday Papakura engine guru Reg Cook set the 2.0 litre and under standard production record on the famed salt flats at Bonneville posting 168MPH on his first run, 12MPH faster than the current record of 158MPH this was then backed up the very next morning with a 171Mph
the car, a Nissan NX Coupe.
Not bad for an old boy ;D
the gearbox is currently being removed to allow for higher gear ratios and therefore hopefully more speed. he is also competing in the modified class as well,
will try to keep you all posted on updates
sr20ve engine with vvl deleted and running roller rockers

bazza here is some footage of his latest run, trying to better the new mark already.
Here is some in-car from the run this morning. The black markers are quarter miles, and the Orange ones, the mile markers. You’ll hear he’s in top gear just before the 1 mile mark, and pulling from 7500RPM to nearly 9000RPM over the two mile timed stretch.

bazza Some more news from bonneville,
i will just cut and paste some of the good bits.
At 6.55pm today we made a 180mph run down the strip, and more important than that… We ran an average speed between mile marker 2 and the 2 and a quarter mile marker of 175mph. This means we are now allowed to run on a longer track and try and gain speed over a longer distance. So tomorrow – 2 more runs, on the long track in the original body kit to try and push that pro-record even further out of reach.
Tomorrow is the last day on the salt. Long track, and an early attempt at qualifying. Straight to impound and at noon they shut the tracks. We then have one hour to work on the car, and then back out we go to try and back up the run. Fingers crossed we can “do some more damage” as we’ve already been accused of this week J
Then it’s pack up – try to leave most of the salt behind and home to the motel before we all start the long trek home.
Finally – my personal aim over here is to capture data log evidence of our engine running 10,000RPM.. Today I got a 9,975RPM – nearly there
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bazza The record has been reset again on the last day,
the VE powered nx coupe set a new record of 174.525mph
GO THE KIWIS !!!!
