I plan on getting HPTuners for my Trailblazer in a year or so, when the bumper to bumper warranty is up. I could just get someone to flash a tune for me, but I actually want to learn how to do it for myself. |

I would get a good wide band A/F meter, I recommend Innovate, welding a bung in the exhaust pre cat and start to experiment. For WOT tuning only, a huge generality is that an engine like this is gonna make best conservative power at an AFR of around 12.5:1 or so or sligtly leaner, mean best torque is gonna be done with a total advance of somewhere in the high 20's low 30's most likely. Gotta look out for detonation around the torque peak, engine might like more advance after the power peak. I don't know this engine super well but those are rough guidelines. You gotta experiment and don't detonate it. |

Hah. That depends, do you have experience with ECU tuning?

I've seen screen shots of HPTuners; one of my buddies had a Solstice GXP. It looked pretty easy to use. Just make SMALL changes and only one thing at a time |

Hey man you own a chevy, get EFI Live, makes Hptuners look like a joke!
Well now that I've said that, just a personal preference, got hptuners a long time ago, got EFI live about two and a half years ago. Haven't used hptuners since. Keep in mind I am merely offering you another avenue to explore, as a consumer you must evaluate what will work best for you. |

I have HP Tuners. In the past I tuned my 96 Cutlass (3100 V6 using a 97 PCM) with excellent results. I OBD2 swapped my current 95 Cutlass and havent gotten that tuned yet since the weather is still cold out. Ive been tuning a good friends 02 Z28 (LS1, Auto) and he loves the results. Other than that, ive tuned my girlfriends 06 Impala (3500 V6) and my best friends girls 05 Grand Prix (3800 V6) Easy to use, easy to learn. Well worth the small price tag of $500. EFI Live has been known to be less user-friendly than HP Tuners, not to mention it sucks for not having any real GM V6 support. HP Tuners also has some Ford and working on Dodge support out there so you can tune your friends with it!! And if you wanna datalog a wideband but dont wanna get the pro version, you can hook it up through your EGR wiring, set a custom PID and datalog through that. And of course you can run diagnostics with it as well as it makes a pretty good scan tool. Check out the HP Tuners forums, very informative with lots of great reading and basic how-to's to get you started. -Bob |
