Hi
I have a Japanese Imported 93 Lancer rs Turbo and I'm thinking of upping the boost. I however am in a predicament because this means that I have to either, find forged rods & pistons for a 4g93t engine or swap in a 4g63t. Also I'm limited in the 4g63t engines I can put since only the evo 1 through 3 face the right direction. My current engine is making about 10psi. So simply put do I change my engine or work on the one I currently have?
Any advice will be consider and appreciated

This might be tough... but does the 4b11t face the correct direction? |

I would change the engine before upgrading the 93. A lot of Mitsubishi's came with the 4G63, so you arem't limited to just the Evo 1-3. If you get a n/a 4G63 just swap out the pistons to turbo ones.
BTW, if you are upping the boost, it doesn't necessarily mean you have to get forged pistons and rods. The stock 93 will take a lot more than 10psi as long as the tuning is right. |

Go with the 4G63t, if you are up for the project. They're a very tough motor and their are lots of tuning and build options. Make sure its from a turbo car (that it has the oil squirters). Also, if you are building a motor, rather than dropping-in a whole lump, many would suggest building a 2.3 4G63t. JW

The oil squirters are nice to have but not essential in my opinion. I have been running an N/A block in my Evo I for about 4 years and have had no reliability issues from doing so. |

I don't know if I have the skill or sanity to drop a 4b11t into my lancer. Also my 1.8 liter 4g93t is relatively new with less than 55k miles on It. Generally speaking its a good block with a lot of low end punch and low turbo lag, it's just that the pistons and rods are weak. I red somewhere that it can't handle more than 12psi without internal mods. I want about 16psi. Also due to its lower recipricating mass I get an extra 500 rpm on the 4g63. So it's seriouly worth it to get the 4g63? If so off of what car should I get it from. Also should I keep my close ratio gearbox or replace it with the donor gearbox? |

You do NOT want to try and drop a 4B11 into your GSR, pick up either a 6-bolt GVR-4 motor, or one of the evo 7-bolts and put it in there. Check out "team4g.com" also, there are tons of fellas down there that can point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I think I'll go with an evo 3 engine & gearbox. I was told that the wiring is essentially the same. When I'm ready I'll try and post some pics. |

Yes, you will need to use the Evo ECU and the MAF, or chip the Evo ECU to use the MAF that your car comes with. |

The amount that it will cost you to reliably make the HP AND do the swap you could upgrade the 1.8. I'm assuming that your car is FWD and is likely from Taiwan. In Taiwan there are plenty of people making 400hp with this engine. I'd recommend forged pistons and some better fueling and engine management to go with the big turbo system. How much can you use with a fwd anyway? |

His car is 4WD. The swap to an early EVO engine is about the easiest swap that exists for any type of car. |

Ya wrecked is right. My car was the pre-cursor to the original lancer evolution. Therefor it has 4wd and a turbocharged 1.8l engine. Also its roughly 250lbs lighter than the evo 1. As far as I know it was imported from japan. Over here in Canada we can import any car as an antique so long as its 15 years old. |
