I googled this but can't find a good answer. I just checked all the plugs on my brothers 98 jetta VR6. My old car actually. Three of them were more or less fine, with brownish coloring on the ground straps. One was a bit wet. But the question is: the other two's ground straps were pretty white. No big deposits or anything, just really white. What does that suggest for these two?

Clogged injectors is the most likely cause, but if you want to know about reading spark plugs or spark plug engineering. You can go to any major manufacturer of spark plugs and look into their technical information section. Like here's NGK's http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/tech_support/spark_plugs/index.asp?mode=nml. Champion has a pretty comprehensive technical section too http://www.championsparkplugs.com/sparkplug411.asp. A lean condition does leave a white appearance but so does some fuel additives. I've seen plugs with a red discoloration due to a fuel additive. Also some plugs will discolor after induction services in automotive shops.

clogged injectors eh? that's a bummer. thanks for the link squared, i actually did peek at ngk's site along with another or two. these volkswagens... well at least they get me some use out of my tools hehe.
