By Travis Wolcott

This year marked the 25th Anniversary of Thunderhill Raceway Park, a technical 3 mile road course outside of Willows, CA, comprised of 15 corners and one rather large hill we call the "ski jump". The weekend of December 8-9th was the 10th anniversary of the country’s longest endurance sports car race, the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Christa's 2013 Ride- 2013 Top Kart Twister

By Mike Kojima

Karting is perhaps one of the best training aids for racing.  Karts are much cheaper to operate than cars and it's usually a simple deal to get your kart ready for a weekend of fun compared to your race car.  Most of us agree that Karting is probably harder than cars as well, more akin to a formula car than a sedan. The MotoIQ crew goes karting frequently to get a speed fix without spending a lot of money.

Karts are also good training for future drivers that are too young or small to drive a full sized car!  Christa Kojima has been karting ever since she was about 8 years old, starting in a 50cc kids kart, then moving up to a 100cc clutch kart at the mandatory age of 9.  Now as she approaches 12 she will have to move up again from her current class of HPV-1 to Jr's.

Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Evo Crash PPIHC Jeremy Foley Evolution Dynamics

Evolution Dynamics Pikes Peak Edition Evo

By Sarah Forst & Wes Dumalski

F1 race car driver Stirling Moss once said "To achieve anything in this game, you must prepare to dabble in the boundary of disaster."  Of course, he also broke both ankles and chipped four vertebrae after falling three stories down an elevator shaft a few years back so accidents can happen to anyone...

But how do you prepare for a floor routine that involves 14 somersaults 100 feet down a 45 degree abyss polluted with boulders?  They don't call Turn 16 of the Pike's Peak course "Devil's Playground" for nothing.  12,500 feet up the side of the summit - just 1500 feet shy of the finish line - the corner features a steep unprotected cliff.  Perhaps the asphalt leading up to the turn should be nicknamed Skidmark Alley.

I have to say, attending a Press Day at the LA Auto Show is really nice.  The crowds are minimal and you have more access to all of the vehicles.  Pop the hood, poke around the engine bay, snap a bunch of pictures, spend all the time you want and no one cares.  It provides me the opportunity to bring you guys and gals geeky content like this.  On with the show!

When you fall in love with a car sometimes it doesn’t matter how long or how much money it takes to achieve your goal.  Every editor at MotoIQ has been down that path in some form or another and it turns out our fans are pretty smitten also.  On the other side of the globe, Nino Karotta from Budapest and the team at PWRacing in Hungary are building a stunning 1974 260Z.  Nino plans on using the car for drifing, time attack and what he calls “generic” recreational activities.
