Project Golf R MKVII: Fluidampr Test

The Golf R is back for another round of modifications. Now that we have addressed the suspension and feel the car is handling the way we want it, it is time to move on to the powertrain. We are not entirely sure which direction the powertrain modifications will ultimately go, but the best place to start is by making sure our foundation is solid. In this article, we are going to be installing the Fluidampr crankshaft pulley, as well as doing some baseline Dyno testing on Project Golf R.


 

Project MKVII Golf R: Part 3 - SuperPro Install

In the last installment of project MKVII Golf R, we went over the install and initial impressions of the Bilstein Clubsport suspension system. Well during that install process, we also went ahead and installed almost every SuperPro component on offer for the Golf platform. These guys have been doing their homework on the MQB platform and have developed some really awesome parts that would be suitable for almost any application. Project MKVII Golf R: Part 2 - Bilstein Clubsport Suspension

Project MKVII Golf R has been doing an absolute killer job of being a boring daily driver for the past few months while we slowly decided which aspects of the car needed to be addressed and with which components. While we didn’t have the opportunity to make it to many driving events, we did manage to get some initial shakedown runs in at Adams Motorsports Park at one of their grip events. During that event we got a feel for the car and quickly decided to address the suspension first. The stock suspension on the Golf R is more than adequate for a daily driver and weekend drive fun, but we are going for serious on track performance.


 

Project MKVII Golf R: Part 1 - Introduction

I finally decided to give in and buy a German made car. Perhaps it’s the clever marketing that captured me this time, but I want to believe it was the clever engineering that drew me to the 2016 MKVII Volkswagen Golf R. While some of the rivals in the segment (WRX STI, and discontinued Evolution) have used the same stale drivetrain for several generations, Volkswagen has taken a different route and the result is a modern drivetrain package consisting of a direct injected turbo four-cylinder as well as a refined double clutch transmission and torque vectoring AWD system. This most recent addition to the MotoIQ project car fleet is a real wolf in sheep's clothing, and in this article we will take a look at some of the cool features of this project car.
