Project BOSS 302Revival: Introduction

by Mark Gearhart

Sometimes it’s a disgrace to let a vehicle parish. When crashed beyond their means, some vehicles can cost more than it’s worth to provide a second chance at life. After seeing a 2013 BOSS 302 that was destined to be parted out and discarded, we knew this one couldn’t be left to the vultures. Meet MotoIQ’s latest project vehicle, Boss 302Revival.

Project DBA R35 GT-R: Upping Stopping Power with Brembo and Race Technologies

by Mike Kojima

As you can see so far in this series, we are doing a lot of things to fight the weight of the GT-R.  At 3800 pounds, the GT-R wheels throw around a lot of mass with a great deal of speed and grace, but it can only do it for short periods of time before the weight takes its toll, mostly on the brakes and tires.

LA Auto Show 2017: Nerd’s Eye View – BMW

by Khiem Dihn

So, what was going on in the BMW booth? A lot of electric stuff. A lot of ‘M’ stuff. A lot of carbon fiber. It seems you can get a M Performance version of just about any model BMW now- much like how you can get an AMG Mercedes everything. What do you get for the extra Benjamins dished out for the M Performance packages? Fancy carbon fiber exhaust temps with the M logo etched into the tips for one.

Project DBA R35 GT-R: Getting More Grip with Advan and Toyo!

by Mike Kojima

One of the issues with the R35 GT-R is that it is a big heavy car that gets an amazing amount of performance out of its tires.  The stock tires are a 285/35-20 in the rear and a 255/40-20 in the front. For most cars, this is an impressive amount of rubber but for the 3850 lb GT-R, the car works exceedingly well at first, but the tires quickly fade away.  With some ham-fisted driving, the fading away happens pretty fast.

Project SC300 Road Racer: Part 12 - Cabin Fever

by Erik Jacobs

The trunk harness was complete. The engine bay harness work and modifications were complete. Now it was time to finally get after the main cabin. And, oh what a project it would be.

Project Corvette Stingray C7 Z51: Keepin' it Cool(er)

by Mike Kojima

Corvettes have always been notorious for overheating on the track. The Z51 shod from the factory with additional cooling capacity is much better in this respect, but it can still run hot under the worst conditions. For this reason, Chevrolet has come out with an auxiliary radiator kit to supplement the engine cooling on the C7. Since we plan to drive our car on the track, you can bet we are going to install this!

Project DBA R35 GT-R: Getting the Ultimate Custom Car Cover with Covercraft

by Mike Kojima

The MotoIQ Megashop is in a pretty dusty industrial area in So Cal. Dust gets into our shop and mixes with the normal shop dirt of metal filings and other stuff that naturally flies around when you work with cars.

So unfortunately, some of the nicer cars in our fleet end up being quickly covered by a mixture of nasty shop dirt and neighborhood dust that can turn a freshly cleaned and detailed car into a pigpen in as little as a week.

Nerd’s Eye View: The Cars of PRI

by David Zipf

PRI is full of cool and new speed parts, which the rest of the MotoIQ team is showing you.  But for a PRI newcomer, it’s the cars that really overwhelm you.  They are everywhere!  And, they are all amazing and varied, everything from rally demo cars to Drag Week veterans, to dirt track cars, to original Indy 500 winning racers.  We could fill a novel with the cars we saw, and in fact after walking the PRI floor for an entire day, I STILL hadn’t seen everything there was to see!  Note to self: plan for more vacation in 2018…

Project C7 Corvette Stingray Z51: Drivetrain Improvements

by Mike Kojima

The C7 Corvette is truly an exotic car, and we cannot believe the amount of state-of-the-art super trick features it has to offer for the price it commands. One of these features is its rear-mounted transaxle.  Mounting the heavy transmission in the rear of the car and combining it with the differential is a cool way to save weight and helps the Stingray achieve its 50/50 weight distribution.

"My Fiancée's" Miata: Part 9 - V8 Roadsters Cowl Stabilizer Braces, Sway Bar End Links and Track Test

by Daniel O'Donnell

Last winter, I was debating all the areas of improvement the Miata needed and first and foremost was chassis rigidity. The car crashes over bumps, the interior rattles and the cowl shakes like an old man’s fist when the neighbor kids are playing ball too close to his roses. It was getting to me and really needed to be the focus for improvement before future modifications could be made. Much like a relationship, a chassis needs to be rock solid for the whole package to work. My fiancée will appreciate that part.
