Now that Spring has sprung here in the Mid-World, it’s time to get our 2014 Mazda3 ready for some autocross fun. We are planning on competing in SCCA’s Street Touring F category against MINI Coopers, Acura RSXs and Mazda2s, as well as other Mazda3s.
After the revelation in the first installment of this 2014 Mazda3 project that we actually spend two-plus hours a day in this car commuting to work, we’ll blow your mind a little more. We can’t autocross or do track days from November until well into April here in Ohio. The weather is just too cold and wet. That said, contrary to public opinion, there are plenty of car enthusiasts outside Southern California and we find our own ways to have fun during the winter months.
You know that perfect dreamworld where you’re dating a super model and Patrick Dempsey asks you how you make your hair look so cool? It doesn’t exist. In our heads, we should all be driving <insert sports car du jour> and making each and every highway on-ramp a text book example of a four-wheel drift. But that’s not how the ball bounces all the time with life and we need to roll with it.
It takes a lot for me to admit that I’m not good at something. My inner-German just wants to attack, conquer and win at everything—work or play. I surreptitiously let my 5-year old win at Bey Blade and think to myself that I’m beating all of those other dads that are too competitive to let their sons gain confidence in life. I should probably talk to someone about this.
