WATCH:  MotoIQ Project C7 Corvette Stingray Z51 Introduction

If you’ve kept up with us for a while, you know what we are about.  We’ve perfected the art of turning our "daily drivers" into "barely streetable" for the sake of best possible lap times on the tracks we rarely have time to visit.  Will this new Stingray project be any different?

Watch as Mike Kojima goes underneath the Stingray to give his take on the engineering inside the C7 Corvette and get a little preview of what the future holds for our newest project vehicle!  For those of you who still like to read, stay tuned for our intro article next week!

#LeMansDay at the Petersen Automotive Museum

by Khiem Dinh

The Petersen Automotive Museum has started a tradition of holding a 24 Heures du Mans (that’s 24 Hours of Le Mans in English) watch party. This year, a little competition on Forza was also held to be entered into a raffle to win a set of tires from Michelin. But really, the Petersen Automotive Museum has a stunning array of vehicles showing both history and modern technology, so anyone should visit the museum regardless.

Turbosmart's OPR T40 - Turbo Oil Pressure Regulator

Industry Press Release

Turbosmart’s new patent pending OPR T40 is an oil pressure regulation system for your ball bearing turbocharger. It helps prevent compressor or turbine stage oil leaking or smoking, and takes the guesswork out of oil restrictor sizing for more efficient and effective oil delivery. Providing an aftermarket turbocharger with the ideal oil pressure has always been a challenge. Traditionally, the turbocharger’s oil feed has relied on a restrictor system, which are difficult to set up correctly. When incorrectly sized or set up, they can be the cause of turbo seal leakage and blow-by.

Tested: Mirror Bright Vinyl and Rubber Treatment

by Mike Kojima

We usually don't get excited enough about car care products to write about them, but every once and awhile, we get something in the mail that gets our attention. Tire treatments are something we could usually care less about. The market is saturated with all sorts of goop to put on tires.

Project Lexus SC300 Road Racer: Part 11 - Engine Bay Wiring

by Erik Jacobs

When we left Project SC300 last, we had done most of the preparation work in the engine bay getting ready to start pulling the engine harness work. Now it was time to actually do the engine bay harness. Of course, some ancillary components needed to be wired and set up, too. Take a look at what we did.

Why You Need to Get a 3D Printer!

by Nikita Rushmanov

Why do you need a 3D printer? A better question would be, why haven’t you got one yet? 3D printing has long been hailed as the “next big thing in tech”, and it’s for a good reason. It allows you to manufacture parts for literally pennies, without any tooling and setup costs, which can’t be said about other manufacturing methods, such as injection molding or CNC machining. In addition, with printing, you can make parts that just can’t be manufactured by other methods. Because the object is built from scratch by depositing material where it needs to go, rather than starting with raw stock and cutting it to shape, you can build completely enclosed objects that have cavities inside of them. Even casting or injection molding can’t match the geometric possibilities that printing offers you. A 3D printer is one of those tools that just seems to have endless possibilities. If you can dream it, you can make it.

Project EP3 Civic Si: Can an Oil Change Affect Horsepower?

by Mike Kojima

A lot of people have asked this question before, and the jury has been out on whether this is something that is true or not. We have attempted to test to see whether certain brands of high-quality oil have a gain in power over others before with mixed results. Our dyno tests have always been inconclusive with the differences being too small to be considered or perhaps caused by variables such as differences in viscosity or sump level.

AutoX’ing Steed: Gregg Biddlingmeier’s 1988 Ford Mustang

by Justin Banner

It’s not the first choice of those who go autocrossing or tracking, but when a Fox-body Mustang is set up right, it can make for a potent road racer. Gregg Biddlingmeier’s example is one of many he’s owned and shows what these Fords are capable of with some planning, fabrication, and execution.

ASN Canada FIA Canadian Autoslalom Championship

presented by Toyo Tires

by Frank Ewald

Pitt Meadows, B.C. was home to the ASN Canada FIA Canadian Autoslalom Championship presented by Toyo Tires on June 24th and 25th. Held at the expansive YPK Pitt Meadows Training Facility and hosted by the VCMC Motorsport Club, there was plenty of open space on this massive paved training ground for a huge course layout. And not just one, but four courses were run over the weekend. At the noon break on both Saturday and Sunday, the courses were changed slightly at the start line and finish box to allow the courses to be run in reverse. This gave the drivers a huge challenge and also kept them on their toes throughout the weekend. Further adding to the challenge, the four best scores for each driver were tallied up and that combined total led to the final score.

Tested: Rally Ready Driving School!

by Khiem Dinh

I started watching WRC around fifteen years ago and more recently rally cross, but I had never learned the skills required to drive a car in dirt. I’ve done drag racing, auto-x, road courses, motorcycle track days, and more recently supermoto. Heck, I have even gone mud bogging and driven dune buggies, but I haven’t gone sideways in dirt. It so happens our buddy Texas Dave has his Rally Ready driving school in my favorite city of Austin, Texas.

Project STurdteen: Prepping SR20DET Heads with Portflow Design

by Rathyna Gomer

For those of you who have been keeping up with my Project STurdteen drift car, you will see that we spent a good amount of time overhauling the suspension and making small gains with some bolt-ons. After I took her out for my first track day, I unknowingly lost the dipstick at some point and discovered a slight ticking noise in the head. After conducting a leak-down test we discovered that two of the cylinders were down over 25%. In other words, the Turd’s heart was a bit worn down and it was time for a rebuild!

Wrench Tip: Torquing Unreachable Fasteners

by Nikita Rushmanov

Have you ever looked at your service manual for a torque spec, only to curse, “What the hell were those engineers thinking?” We certainly have, but there is always a way to get things done by the book. The perfect example of an impossible torque spec is the driveshaft to differential flange on a 240sx. In this case, it’s impossible to get a socket on the nut because there is not enough room between the flange and the differential housing. Additionally, the hex head of the bolt on the other side is jammed against the flange, so you can’t torque that either. As a result of this, a lot of 240 owners we know never actually use a torque wrench on their driveshafts, instead opting to torque to “2 uga ugas” with an open ended wrench. To compliment this, we’ve also seen a few 240 driveshafts rattle loose, or in some cases come off completely, punching holes in the floor pan.

So what’s the solution? Let us show you!

Event Coverage: 2017 Indianapolis 500 Presented by PennGrade Oil, Part 2

by Dave Zipf

We follow up after Dixon's mindblowing crash from Part 1 and continue to break down each wild scenario during the Indy 500. This was one of the wildest 500s we’ve seen in years.  It had everything: From huge crashes, to four-wide battles, mechanical intrigue, big name rookies and veterans, and a deserving dark horse winning in a shootout- racing really doesn’t get much better than it did at the 2017 Indianapolis 500.  It’s a great reminder, that there really is no place like Indy.
