igloocase igloo case iPhone 5 MotoIQ review Wes DumalskiTested: Igloo Case for iPhone

By: Wes Dumalski

As much as we like fast cars and sano builds here at MotoIQ we also love tech gadgets! Messing with cameras, microphones, cell phones, instatwittergrambook uploads; all of these things are what we do on a daily basis to bring MotoIQ to the masses. It should go without saying that when new items hit the market that offer us the ability to do those things in a more efficient manner, our pointy nerd ears perk up and our fingers buzz the web in search of said future altering technical goodness. In this case the gadget of mention is the Igloo case for the iPhone. Click on is as we put the case through its paces…

Sim-Speeding: MotoIQ Reviews Forza Motosport 4

By Justin Banner

Forza Motorsport has been the staple of XBOX racing games since its inception in 2005. Now up to the fourth installment, Forza Motorsport 4 is the latest version, but is it the greatest version? Well, someone from Turn 10 decided it would be best for a guy who covers Formula Drift to try and find out. Wait, what?

Electronic Cigarettes

I am checking out SiGCiG.com's Encore electronic cigarette as a method to reduce smoking. Smoking without the cigarette smoke is pretty cool actually.

By Eric Hsu

For those of you who are Ken Block fans, you might be interested to know that he is near to closing a deal to drive 2009 spec WRC Ford Focuses. If all works out, the deal should be finalized next month. Block's team mate will be the ex-SWRT (Subaru World Rally Team) driver Chris Atkinson.

Tuning, Life, Beef Ribs and Remodeling

A couple months ago when Ben and Roland from Pi were visiting from the UK, we were having dinner somewhere and this conversation came up about tuning. I think we all ordered big ass beef BBQ ribs at Lucille's that night. Ben finished the ENTIRE full rack. Believe it or not, they don't have big ass tender tasty meaty beef ribs in the UK. They do have the best Guinness in the world, but that still doesn't quite make up for the missing beef ribs. Anyhow, as I remember the conversation it went a little something like this (in full on English accents except for me):

Roland, "You going to move into that big house and work on the t...

Crazy Week and Time Killers

This week is CRAZY busy. Daytime is Cosworth and we're cranking at 125% right now trying to finish up the multitude of projects that we have going on. In the evenings it is time attack help. Lucky for me I am not actively campaigning a time attack car so I am not ultimately responsible for entire cars. I get to play free agent so I can finish my work and gtfo. I remember the days of trying to run a shop and then having to get a race car ready: IT SUCKED.

Anyhow last night I ended up having dinner with Tarzan and Mr. Omoto who owns C-West. Tarzan is here to drive the Crawford STi and Omoto-san is here on vacation with his fami...

Back Home Comments

It's good to be back home, but this jet lag fucking sucks. The 17 hour time difference is rocking my sleep pattern pretty bad. I used to be able to handle it just fine when one day of recovery was all it took and I was good to go the next day. Now I'm on the 4th day of recovery and I'm still hurting. Jet lag recovery is directly proportional to hangovers recovery time vs. age apparently.

I've enabled comments for now. I'll try it out for a while. I realize that I post a lot of things that people may not agree with since there's a whole generation of SPEs (forum bred self proclaimed engineers) and FFFs out there now. Fuck them (or you if you're an [Read the rest of this article...]

Happy New Year 2009!

Happy new year everybody. My goal before the new year, aside from completing the MX-5 calibration work (see below), was to get this new and improved blog up and running. With some help from Aric and the gigantic knowledge base we call the web, I was able to get this up and running today with the exception of the links you see on the top of this column and below the header. The evil scripts, adware, and bots that have infested the JDM Insider site are no longer lurking on this blog. BTW, this blog's new web address is: http://www.beyondthedyno.com/Blogs/Eric. Pleas...

FTW: For The Win

What the fuck is "FTW"? Looking it up on urbandictionary.com, I see that it means "For the win." Sometimes I peruse various forums (usually when somebody sends me a link saying, "Hey read this thread. It's hilarious." or "Check out this dumb fuck FFF.") and I usually see the dumb ass abbreviation: FTW. I understand abbreviations like lol, rofl, imho, btw, etc. because these are things that either express an action or are abbreviations for something that you would actually say. In a real life conversation you can actually say "In my hones...

About Beyond the Dyno

Beyond the Dyno is my personal blog site where I comment on just about everything that goes on around me. It does reflect my personality in that this blog is heavily imbalanced toward cars (like me) and that it is a little rough around the edges (also like me). While I do have a life outside of cars, I would love to live, breathe, and eat cars if I could. It doesn't work though.....I tried it for about 6 years and I can tell you that you will burn out despite any amount of love or passion for something.

Beyond the Dyno is primarily for your reading entertainment. I hope that you will visit the site while having your morning coffee in your cubicle or office, before you visit that f...

Autobacs, No Sorry Autobox

I realize that I have been lagging pretty hard on posting original material. If you notice, my last several posts have basically been rehashes of OPP (other people's.....property). Time is short at the moment with SEMA just 10 days away. I have been attending SEMA for 15 years straight now and every year I tell myself, "I'll get the cars ready a little earlier this year." Bullshit, no matter what I say it never happens.

Anyhow, today I bring you the latest in Chinaman robbery: Autobox. You read it right: AUTOBOX. Not the Japlish named AUTOBACS automotive supers...

The Good Wife's Guide

Here's a little break from the monotony of cars, engines, horsepower, and my incessant bitching about cheap ass Chinaman products and his cheap fuck customers. Eddie at Mackin sent me the best link of the week: The Good Wife's Guide from a 1955 newspaper clipping. Does anybody know how to build time machines because I definitely need one.

Thirty Fucking Five

11 days ago I turned 35 years old. I think the physical decline started around 26 which I'm sure was expedited by the uh...partying, alcohol, girls, working long and late hours, carbon monoxide from the dyno rooms, etc. Exercise was non existent and still really isn't present in my life. I think I should start soon or else my health will take a shit. These days, if I strain myself physically it takes days for me to recover. If I party too hard it takes days to recover. If I work on a car too late into the night and stretch muscles I no longer stretch regularly it takes days to recover. Damn, I used to bounce back overnight. Talking to the older guys at Cosworth, they all say "You ain't...
