Is the D1GP Dead?

Is the D1GP Dead?

MotoIQ Staff Report

We normally don't webmine but after the loss of of a few key personnel last month the D1GP organization has been totally rocked by the departure of founders Keiichi Tsuchiya and Daijiro Inada.  We don't think the D1GP can continue as we know it.  Personally the D1GP has always been pretty political and controversial and in this country has been overshadowed by Formula D.  Perhaps the demise of D1GP will mean that some of our favorite Japanese drivers will return to compete here in Formula D.

RIP Bruce Soltys The Passing of a Great Friend

From Gardella Racing

ED- Bruce Soltys was one of our traveling family on the Formula D circuit.  We remember him as a helpful, friendly guy.  Our last memory of Bruce was him wishing us a safe trip back home in the hotel hallway after the Vegas round of FD.  He will be missed.  Godspeed Bruce!

The Gardella Racing Team truck driver and great friend to all, Bruce Soltys, passed away this Saturday from a cardiac arrest. He was with the team in Monticello, NY doing some volunteer testing. Bruce was loading the Chevy pickup truck, preparing to leave the track after testing had been completed and fell. He was rushed to the Catskill Regional Medical Center Hospital in Callicoon, NY where he lost his life.

A First Timer's Visit to SEMA

A  First Timer's Visit to SEMA

By Colin Holte

Like many auto enthusiasts it had been one of my long held dreams to attend that glorious feast of automotive aftermarket goodness known as the Specialty Equipment Market Association or SEMA.  Also like many auto enthusiasts I didn't really have a job in the automotive industry that would work to gain me entry to the show.  How I fixed that is an interesting story.

KW Suspension Factory Tour

Industry Insider: KW Suspension Factory Tour, Part 1

By Mike Kojima, photos by Jeff Naeyaert

We were stoked when we got a call from KW Suspension asking if we would like to visit their facilities in Germany a few months ago.  We felt like how Charlie in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory must have felt when he found that golden ticket for a tour of a wonderful place.  If you don't know who or what KW is, they are the makers of some of the best suspensions available for both the tuner and the professional racing market.

Inside ACT clutches

Industry Insider: A Look Inside ACT clutches

By Mike Kojima, photos by Jeff Naeyaert

We have been familiar with the ACT clutch line for many years.  One of the race cars in the MotoIQ stable has been running an ACT clutch for the last 7 years which is probably over 20,000 racing miles with no problems at all.  This is real racing mileage on a track, punishing use probably 5 times tougher than street driving. Perhaps the motorsport that is the hardest on clutches is drifting. Our friends on the Formula D circuit Joon Mang and Tanner Foust use off the shelf ACT clutches in the brutal, abusive clutch kicking world of Pro Drifting. For street use, ACT clutches are known to be great at holding torque with good smoothness and light pedal effort.

VIDEO: Gymkhana THREE, Part 2; Ultimate Playground

MotoIQ Staff Report

Our buddies at Mad Media have finally come out with the long awaited Gymkhana Three with Ken Block.  Check out the most impressive Ford Fiesta.  What interests us is that the AWD Fiesta can run a lot of angle in drift, sliding in backwards easily in many segments.  From our Formula D experience we know that this is pretty hard for a RWD car to do.

Please comment on what you think about the Gymkhana resurgence inside!
