Mike Kojima, Dai Yoshihara

Video - Dai Yoshihara and Mike Kojima In Car at MPTCC Cal Speedway

MotoIQ Staff Report

Ride along with Dai Yoshihara and Mike Kojima at Redline's MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Challenge race at Cal Speedway.  See Dai cruse to victory after a brief battle with the APD Acura TSX.  See Mike Kojima flub his way from last to second after a first lap crash.  You can briefly see Project G20 for a couple of seconds as well with Steve Rockwood at the wheel.

Join the crew at Willow Springs July 2-3 for the exciting double header, double point Liberty Grand Prix.  Will Dai keep his winning streak going?  Will Mike Kojima not crash and give Dai a run for his money?  Will Annie Sam be back from her Honeymoon in time with enough red envelope cash to field an entry?  Will Rockwood or Martin drive this time?  Will the APD Acura continue in its development and come back even faster?  Will the Fontana Nissan turbo SE-R of Scott Vanderheide get the bugs worked out?

With the rumored sign up of NASA Honda Challenge stars Edik Stepanyan and Andy Hope the race should be interesting.  Come see tuner cars battle it out wheel to wheel.  Rumor has it they are taking out ballast and starting on super soft Hoosier A6 tires.  Will they last?

Find out, see you at the track.

Two questions. First; why does Dai's car "die" so much when shifting to 5th? Should you change for a lower 5th gear? or there a problem with the powerband? In one of the corners he passes the RSX and as soon as it changes to 5th the RSX gets ahead.

Second: Mike, why do you have the wheel so slanted upwards? Is that the stock position or you modified it? I always find it uncomfortable to have the wheel with too much angle away from the vertical.

Dai's car doesn't have much power, the engine is tuned for torque and you can see his advantage coming off the turns. His car does suck on the oval. Sentra trannies don't have much for alternative ratios. We are going to change the cams on his car and do some tuning to try to get more top end for Willow Springs.

The steering wheel looks funny because of the wide angle lens I think. It is a racing steering column but it is pretty close to stock location.

Looks like fun! lol at the pass, then off course.

What are the engines revved to on both cars? Seems like a nail-biter in terms of engine reliability going that long at full-throttle and high RPM around the oval.

GREAT footage! Mike, if I you ever put on an HPDE course for Motoiq people, which I would totally fly down and pay for, might want to skip that chapter on "the pass" :) Still laughing!

HAHA! This vid cracked me up today!

Gotta love the fist-shaking and off-tracking almost immediately. Happened to me too, on a friendly open track session with my buddy on Sepang, hahahaha!
