AES Auto: A Civic for Street and Strip!

by Frank Ewald

Two years ago, we first met the AES Auto team at Mission Raceway Park. That chance meeting has resulted in many hours of joint work on projects and the enjoyment of a great group of car enthusiasts. At the centre of it all is the shop - AES Auto. In the shop is the quarter mile car. The AES Auto Civic is an ongoing work in progress. It's currently a ten second car that runs consistent 140 mph passes in the quarter mile. It's a street car. And, it has served as a tow truck to move disabled vehicles about the shop yard.

The Blackbird Fabworx Morpheus Miata!

by Mike Kojima

The cars created by Moti Almagor of Blackbird Fabworx have always caught our attention. More for less has always been the theme his creations. The Blackbird Fabworx cars have always eked amazing speed out of stock, very low powered engines. Lightweight, meticulous care in chassis setup, balanced brakes and carefully thought out aerodynamics have had a harmonious interplay in developing incredible speed from very little horsepower.

Race Ramps Portable Pit Stop BMW

Race Ramps: Portable Pit Stop

by Jonathan Lawson

Every car guy with a garage dreams of owning a lift, but not all of us have the room for one. Sure, there are small and even portable lift options that don’t require a ton of space, but for those times when you want full access to the underside of your car with the wheels supported, ramps are the ticket. Speaking from experience, however, I’ve never had much confidence in the plastic ramps you can pick up from chain stores, and those can cause a hassle when it comes to getting both ends of the car up, let alone the limited ground clearance they offer. Enter Race Ramps!

Project Professional Awesome Time Attack Evo: Driver Safety Part 1 (Being Safe and Looking Like a Million Bucks While Doing It)

by Daniel O'Donnell

There’s an interesting thing I’ve learned when it comes to safety in racing. It’s never a priority until you’ve had you first experience with a concrete barrier. Concrete puts a new perspective on life. One starts to plan and prepare to reduce chances of injuries if a second experience were to occur. An accident will also have you reevaluating the quality of equipment you use. Gone are the days when a borrowed motorcycle helmet with a missing visor and paint chips seem like a wise tool to protect your noggin.

ARK Design Team America BNR32 GT-R Update

by Mike Kojima and Eric Hsu

The Team America crew has been busy and the car has really come together in the past couple of weeks.  The goal is to be able to have the car dyno tuned and track session tested before it has to go into a shipping container and hopefully end up in Australia this time (if you have been following our story, two years ago, instead of going to WTAC, the car ended up in China for a few months due to the freight forwarder making a huge mistake).

Eric Hsu and Gary Castillo have been working around the clock to get the car done with everyone else on the team pitching in on the weekends. The major fabrication is nearly complete and the engine has been started and run.  What's left is to finish up the top secret Andrew Brilliant designed aero package, do the final installation of the wire harness and to clean up and work on the cosmetics of the car like the Team America inspired wrap.

Global Time Attack - Pro Championship - Road Atlanta

by Wes Dumalski

Additional Photos by Sarah Forst

I am sitting on the plane on the way to Atlanta to cover Global Time Attack’s first Pro round of 2014 and reading my coverage of last year's event. As I read my own words I am excited by what happened and I think to myself, how in the hell do we top THAT? My fingers frantically type this while the angry toddler behind me uses my seat back as a jungle gym. Perhaps he too was reading last years coverage, or perhaps he was just pissed he was cramped up in this tin can. I share his sentiment as I also want out of here... Partially because I want this damn kid off my back but mainly because I am a total geek for time attack.

Like last year, Global Time Attack shares Road Atlanta with the 2nd stop for the Formula Drift series and that brings out a lot of people and a lot of cars. Looking at the entry list  gets us excited as the classes are full of some of the top names in the sport from nearly every corner of the country and even some of our friends up North eh’. Time Attack is not dead... It's right here on MotoIQ.

Blacktrax Performance S2000 Motorsport Makeover: Part 1 - Basic Chassis Preparation

by Edward Hu

To start off 2014, the TunerPlayground and BlackTrax Performance team have huge plans for overhauling their time attack Honda S2000, nicknamed “Irene.”  In the past few years, Tom Tang, TunerPlayground founder, has showcased just how capable he and the car are at events such as Global Time Attack at Buttonwillow, where it ran a 1:56 in the CW13 configuration, all while retaining street-driven status. Above is a “before” photo.

This year, however, Irene is going all out. TunerPlayground Motorsports is aiming to participate in wheel-to-wheel, hill climb, and time attack events. These include, but are not limited to: NASA USTCC, Honda Challenge, SCCA Run-Offs, Global Time Attack, Redline Time Attack, Super Lap Battle, MotoIQ MPTCC, Hoopa Hill climb, and eventually, even Pikes Peak.
