Japanese Cars That Don't Suck

by Mike Kojima

I pissed a lot of people off with my Japanese Cars Suck article a few weeks ago, where I expressed dismay at the boring state of the Japanese car industry. Japan Inc. seems to be producing either the uninspired transportation device or the trying too hard, over the top stuff that seems like something out of the Fast and the Furious or Transformers franchises.

Nerd's Eye View: Science of Speed S2000

By: Sarah Forst

Images by Sarah Forst and Wes Dumalski

Back in March while covering the Modified Streetcar Shootout, this S2000 was tearing up the track. The car was clean but sounded dirty and upon inspection under the hood, the engine looked like it was put together by techs in white lab coats. What struck us about this car was the very exotic appearance! Surely this one off piece of art must cost a bajillion dollars and be impossible to re-create! As we looked closer we were absolutely shocked by what we found within this build.

Finding Honda - A Rare Look at the Automaker's Private Collection

By Aaron Bonk

A dozen or so parking spaces with the word Honda hand painted in small block lettering along their curbs are all that reveals that this building has anything to do with the once Japanese motorcycle manufacturer turned carmaker. There is no Honda sign perched along the building's facade. There is no Power of Dreams-emblazoned welcome mat out front. There isn't a single thing about where Honda houses what it calls its Private Collection that would lead passersby to believe that behind the stark-white, nondescript, Torrance, Calif. structure lies the most thorough collection of Honda and Acura automobiles outside of the company's homeland.

Project NSX: Part 2 - Tuning a Limited Slip Differential; Tricks of the Pros

By Mike Kojima and Billy Johnson

By nature a differential wants to send all of the engines power to the wheel with the least amount of traction, the path of least resistance. The side effect of this is unwanted inside wheel-spin out of corners, and even single wheel spin on straight-aways (aka: peg-legging, one-tire-fire, etc…). This greatly affects acceleration since the power is not able to be put to the ground efficiently and is lost through the inside unloaded tire.

Project NSX: Part 1 - Building the Bulletproof Transaxle

by Billy Johnson and Mike Kojima

Now  the Acura NSX is becoming affordable on the used car market and there are many fine examples for a reasonable price for sale at any given time.  Although the car is still quite modern, some of the technology has become a bit long in the tooth and needs some upgrading to stay in line with current supercars and even what can be done to some of the other Japanese exotics in the aftermarket.
