We Test the Bimmerworld Exhaust and Epic Motorsports ECU Tune for E90/E92 S65 V8 BMW M3

by Pablo Mazlumian

When the S65 4.0-liter V8-powered M3 was released, enthusiasts loved the power, thanks to its 8000-plus RPM capability. However, many also deemed it not torquey enough for a V8. With this exhaust setup and tune, an M3 will make some torque, as shown in our testing at Modified by KC.

Project E39 M5: Yokohama Advan GT Wheels and & Nitto Invo Tires

by Martin Gonzales

After installing the StopTech Trophy Brake System on our Project BMW E39 M5 we unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, had to say goodbye to our stock wheel package. The OE mesh wheels were not designed to clear huge multi piston calipers and neither the front or rear wheels would clear our new brake kit. So we had no other choice but to do a long-needed upgrade to our project's wheels and tire package. Enter Yokohama Wheels and Nitto Tire!

Project E39 M5: StopTech Front & Rear Trophy Kit Installation

by Martin Gonzales

In our Brake Refresh Article we maximized the capabilities of our E39 M5's OE braking system by using StopTech's Sport Axle Pack, which includes slotted rotors, stainless steel braided brake lines and Sport brake pads. Front brake ducting was also added in order to improve on our project's susceptibility to brake fade. Though these improvements left us with a braking system that performed better than stock, the E39 M5's brake system has a lot of room for improvement. We will turn the knob to 11, with StopTech's Trophy kit!

Project E39 M5: K&N Filters and HPS Intake Hoses

by Martin Gonzales

In this installment of Project BMW E39 M5 we will test two very easy to install intake upgrades- the high flow K&N drop-in filters and HPS Performance Parts silicone intake hose kit. We will be doing individual dyno tests for each part to see if they can free up the S62's intake tract and yield some measurable power gains.

Project SR E30: Part 1 - Test Fitting the Engine

by Nikita Rushmanov

So, you built an s13 daily with an SR20 in it. It’s reliable, it’s fast, it makes awesome chu-chu noises, you put 5,000 miles on it, but then you realize that there is one thing this car doesn’t have- 4 doors. That is the exact predicament we were in.

by Billy Johnson

Packing more than 50whp over stock, our Project E90 M3 took to the track at Palm Beach International Raceway (ROAD COURSE) to see how it stacks up against a 2016 Ford Mustang GT.  Both cars have similar power, weight, and are equipped with similarly sized Continental ExtremeContact DW tires.  How will our modified 8 year old sport sedan benchmark compare to a modern “pony car” that’s transitioned away from its roots to become a corner carver? Read on to find out.

Project GMW E46 Turbo: Part 1 - Introduction

by Mark Hutchison

When you think of a high-performance E46 3 Series BMW, you may automatically think of the ever popular M3.  It’s true that the E46 M3 produces great power with its fabled S54 inline six. It also looks amazing with its distinct fender vents and aggressive front fascia. While this 2001 325ci BMW may not be an M3, it will decimate all other cars with an affordable and reliable power plant from an American classic – the GM LS series engine.

The Yost Autosport BMW M4: Part 2 – Controlling the Chassis

by Mike Bonanni

A proper race car is nothing without control and control comes in the form of a number of components that help one another work to their maximum efficiency. Tires of course are a huge part of control but just putting sticky tires on an otherwise stock car wont do you as much good as you think. You need a proper suspension setup to match.

Tested: KW Suspensions BMW F30 DDC Remote Adjustable Suspension

by Mike Kojima

A few years ago we got to test a sample of KW Suspensions' electronically adjustable DDC coilovers while visiting them at their German global headquarters. We sampled a 3 series BMW coupe on twisty German back roads and on the Autobahn and came away favorably impressed. We were able to easily, and quickly, adjust the suspension from comfortable to firm to match our current driving modd and/or road conditions.

The Yost Autosport BMW M4: Part 1 – The Foundation of a Proper Race Car

by Mike Bonanni
photos by Garrett Wade & Eddie Long

Many of us out there, new or otherwise to our beloved car culture, don’t realize the difference between a track car and a race car and it has nothing to do with lap time. What makes a proper race car is not horsepower or giant tires it’s all about optimization of a given platform the only limitations being budget and a rule book. A proper race car has thousands of man hours into it on things that you’ll never see unless pointed out. A proper race car is re-built and re-imagined from the ground up.

Project E46 M3: Part 13 - Lightweight clutch and flywheel, and more!

by Pablo Mazlumian

Our E46 M3 is really coming along. In the power department, in order to get significant gains we're pretty much at a point where we either need to get into the motor, or go forced induction. However, a clutch and flywheel is one way we can get more out of the already existing power. In the next two parts we install and dyno test a Clutch Masters FX400 clutch and lightweight flywheel, and show you several other products we used to drop more weight for additional overall performance.
