People’s Choice Car Show and Parade of Garages

by Pablo Mazlumian

During this time of the year, every week in the Kansas City area you'll find multiple car shows or meets to feast your eyes on. I went to this one not expecting to see much, but a few minutes into I had to grab some shots to show our readers. Check out this tremendous mix of cars, ranging from current and old-school muscle, to exotics and hot rods, to Jeeps with machine guns, and a garage parade! Enjoy flipping through the cars and garages of the Carriage Houses of Johnson County and KC Automotive Museum. If you make it to the last page, tell us what you think of our new styling updates on one of our Midwest garages!

Event Coverage: Red Bull Global Rallycross Indianapolis

by David Zipf

MotoIQ and Global Rallycross go quite a way back. In fact, all the way back in 2009 Dave Coleman gave us a peek at the Olsebergs Fiesta engines and just a couple years ago our chief nerd was in the pits at the Long Beach GRC race and brought us An Inside Look at mountune's GRC Ford Duratec Engine. GRC is much like the circus: they pop-up in town, put on a show, and leave without a trace. Well, if you don’t count a bunch of skid marks as a trace. GRC has hosted a ton of new events in the Midwest this year including in Louisville, Memphis, and Indianapolis. I'm in Kentucky so attending the Louisville race would have made much more sense for me, but I was a bit preoccupied that weekend covering the IndyCar Grand Prix. So to get my rallying fix, I took the drive north to Indianapolis.

Motor Massive, Global Time Attack, 86 Fest: Everything You'll Want In One Place

by David Kim

Toss in a little Global Time Attack into the mixing bowl, add a little 86Fest into the mix, include a touch of Auto Club Speedway, then sprinkle in everything motorsport to make yourself a delicious treat of Motor Massive. Enjoy on a beautiful, but very hot, Sunday afternoon- the collaborative affair between GTA and 86Fest brought one massive automotive event to Southern California, and yes, I was probably a little hungry at the time of writing this, but this event catered to literally all forms of automotive interests. Want a slice of high performance Time Attack? Sure, it’s only a few steps this way.

#LeMansDay at the Petersen Automotive Museum

by Khiem Dinh

The Petersen Automotive Museum has started a tradition of holding a 24 Heures du Mans (that’s 24 Hours of Le Mans in English) watch party. This year, a little competition on Forza was also held to be entered into a raffle to win a set of tires from Michelin. But really, the Petersen Automotive Museum has a stunning array of vehicles showing both history and modern technology, so anyone should visit the museum regardless.

Event Coverage: 2017 Indianapolis 500 Presented by PennGrade Oil, Part 2

by Dave Zipf

We follow up after Dixon's mindblowing crash from Part 1 and continue to break down each wild scenario during the Indy 500. This was one of the wildest 500s we’ve seen in years.  It had everything: From huge crashes, to four-wide battles, mechanical intrigue, big name rookies and veterans, and a deserving dark horse winning in a shootout- racing really doesn’t get much better than it did at the 2017 Indianapolis 500.  It’s a great reminder, that there really is no place like Indy.

Global Time Attack Round 3: Willow Springs International Raceway

by David Kim

Big Willow at Willow Springs International Raceway is an unforgiving 2.5-mile road course that favors high powered vehicles and significantly rewards those with the finesse and confidence to push the limits of speed. Unsurprisingly though, this exhilarating track has claimed some of the finest engineered race vehicles throughout its creation since 1953. The first turn 1 and last turn 9 is unforgivingly quick to dish-out punishment for any driver error, and does not play nice with any chassis that is improperly setup for the high-speed corners. However, it is a challenging battlefield that is a favorite among many drivers that appeared at Global Time Attack’s 3rd Pro Am round of the 2017 season.

Event Coverage: 2017 Indianapolis 500 Presented by PennGrade Oil, Part 1

by David Zipf

There is no place like Indy.  It’s big, it’s fast, it’s narrow, and the track is like no other on earth.  Even in this modern, high tech world, winning Indy is one of the toughest tasks in motor racing today.  The cars may be much faster and more reliable, but winning Indy in 2017 is still just as tough as it was in 1911.

NX GTi-R: Hill Climb Edition

by Frank Ewald

Two years of wait time is over. With the car now running and putting down reasonable horsepower, it was time to dust off my driving gear and check out how rusty my skills had become. The NX GTi-R was pulled out of AES Auto, loaded up on my tow dolly, and started the trek east down the Trans-Canada Highway and Coquihalla Highway to Kelowna, B.C. and the home of Knox Mountain Park. This was the location of my next bucket list adventure, the Leavitt Machinery Knox Mountain Hill Climb.

Event Coverage: 2017 Indianapolis 500 Carb & Legends Day

by David Zipf

If you’ve followed our coverage of the Indy 500 here for the last couple years, you may have been mistaken for thinking that there isn’t much to do on Indy weekend aside from...you know...watch the race.  But that is where you would be mistaken.  The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has dedicated a lot of time and resources into turning the Indy 500 into a three day event, celebrating tradition, speed, and teamwork.  If you’re planning to attend the 500, plan to call in sick and spend Friday and Saturday enjoying the sights and sounds of Indy.

2017 Formula Drift Pro - Road Atlanta

by Erik Jacobs

14 years. It has been 14 years since Formula D first came to Road Atlanta. It's the first place the series ever went, and yours truly even got to drive in it. But, things have changed a lot since that first event long ago. The cars, the drivers- it has all come a long, long way.

2017 Formula Drift Pro2 - Road Atlanta

by Erik Jacobs

Formula Drift's Pro2 series is a relatively recent creation, in comparison to the big show's 14-year history. But do not mistake its youth for innocence. The level of attention to detail in the preparation of the cars and the skill of the drivers are nothing to shake a stick at. Making it to the Pro2 show represents a significant achievement, and the competition is fierce. Here's how the Road Atlanta round of the 2017 Formula Drift Pro2 series shook out.

by Erik Jacobs

For the past few years, Formula Drift weekend at Road Atlanta has brought the Global Time Attack series in tow as a support event. Global Time Attack Round 2: Buttonwillow Raceway Park

by David Kim

Global Time Attack returns to Buttonwillow Raceway Park to challenge the legendary 3.1 mile road coarse for GTA’s Pro Am Speed District round 2 event. With the weather predicted to hover around a beautiful mid 70 degrees throughout the race day, drivers arrive ready to attack the clock, reset records, and set a new standard of performance in their respective classes.

From completely stock Ford Mustangs and lightly modified Subaru BRZs, to the heavily modified unlimited class where one could stumble upon a J35A1 swapped Honda Civic Coupe built specifically for the circuit, a plethora of different types of cars can be found at any Global Time Attack event. Yes, you read it correctly, a stout V6 Honda Odyssey motor- in a Civic! This is the series where not only the world’s fastest and most dedicated drivers come to play, but a series where an enthusiast can find some of the most creative tuners in the industry. With this in mind, welcome to Global Time Attack! Let’s get started.

Honeywell Garrett Boost Festival 2017: Part 1- Global Time Attack

by Karla Pestotnik

Global Time Attack is known to be the premier Time Attack series in Northern America, and arguably, in the western hemisphere of the globe. This isn’t MotoIQ’s first rodeo at another wildly successful GTA event, and it is far from being Global Time Attack’s first highly publicized, sold out competition. GTA teamed up with Honeywell Garrett for Boost Fest 2017, taking place at Southern California’s Streets of Willow Springs Raceway. Hundreds of teams and spectators made the trek to cold and windy Rosemond, CA, in order to pursue and find out who can put down the quickest lap times.

Drivers that are willing to risk it all for one hot lap are heavily rewarded at this track, however, isn’t that the very nature of Time Attack? This is why we love the sport, so let’s see what crazy competition there was and who brought their best!

Sneak Peek: Global Time Attack Cars Round 1

by Khiem Dinh

The first round of Global Time Attack 2017 was held at Streets of Willow as part of the Honeywell Garrett (formerly Air Research, Allied Signal, Garrett, Turbo by Garrett, Garrett by Honeywell, and maybe a couple other names I’m forgetting) Boost Fest. The thing we like about the cars and drivers at GTA is it’s still all very grassroots. Not many people with crazy budgets, a lot of homebrew economic performance enhancers, you know, stuff your average car nut can relate to in their own garage.

A Ride with VCMC AutoCross!

by Frank Ewald

Like most of you, everyone here at MotoIQ loves automobiles and motorsports have obviously been an interest for years. Taking our cars out for a track day are an absolute highlight. Time Attack. ChumpCar World Series and ChumpCar Canada. Simply attending races of various levels over the years and even being privileged enough to photograph some of these events. However, unlike some of the enthusiasts at MotoIQ who have participated in everything, this writer has never attended an AutoCross event.  Anywhere. Not even as a spectator! So when VCMC provided an invitation to join in their Autocross Warm-Up, signing up was not a question.
