Project E39 M5: Yokohama Advan GT Wheels and & Nitto Invo Tires

by Martin Gonzales

After installing the StopTech Trophy Brake System on our Project BMW E39 M5 we unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, had to say goodbye to our stock wheel package. The OE mesh wheels were not designed to clear huge multi piston calipers and neither the front or rear wheels would clear our new brake kit. So we had no other choice but to do a long-needed upgrade to our project's wheels and tire package. Enter Yokohama Wheels and Nitto Tire!

Project E39 M5: StopTech Front & Rear Trophy Kit Installation

by Martin Gonzales

In our Brake Refresh Article we maximized the capabilities of our E39 M5's OE braking system by using StopTech's Sport Axle Pack, which includes slotted rotors, stainless steel braided brake lines and Sport brake pads. Front brake ducting was also added in order to improve on our project's susceptibility to brake fade. Though these improvements left us with a braking system that performed better than stock, the E39 M5's brake system has a lot of room for improvement. We will turn the knob to 11, with StopTech's Trophy kit!

Project E39 M5: K&N Filters and HPS Intake Hoses

by Martin Gonzales

In this installment of Project BMW E39 M5 we will test two very easy to install intake upgrades- the high flow K&N drop-in filters and HPS Performance Parts silicone intake hose kit. We will be doing individual dyno tests for each part to see if they can free up the S62's intake tract and yield some measurable power gains.

Pedders eXtreme XA Coilovers - Chevrolet SS Installation & Test Drive

by Martin Gonzales

We've had good experiences with companies from down under such as Whiteline, Turbosmart and PE Racing so we were anxious to try out the suspension offerings from another Australian company, Pedders. Although the name Pedders is probably new to most of you MotoIQ readers, they have been around for a long time, 67 years, in fact, being founded in 1950.

LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3-RS - UNBOXING

by Martin Gonzales

Looks like I will be the first one at MotoIQ with a Porsche 911 GT3-RS! This past holiday season I was the lucky recipient of this beautiful and very detailed LEGO Technic model. Ever since rumors of this model started circling the interwebs I've been keeping an eye on it, but never could bring myself to actually purchasing one. Why? Maybe it was the thought of being an almost 40 year old man and going out and buying a "toy". Maybe it was its $300 price tag that made it just a little bit more difficult to justify. Regardless, I got one! So let's take you through the unboxing.

Project E39 M5: Part 3 - Installing and Adjusting KW V3s

by Martin Gonzales

In this latest installment of Project E39 M5 we will be outfitting our M5 with a set of KW V3 coilovers. We will not only be giving you our usual evaluation, but will also be spending some time explaining our basic theory of basic shock adjustments. It's no secret the grand majority of the MotoIQ staff are huge proponents of KW Suspension's products. Either from personal experience in their own cars or from simply test driving one of our KW equipped project cars. I fell in the latter category.

Project E39 M5: Part 2 - Installing and Testing the Corsa Performance Exhaust

by Martin Gonzales

After ensuring we could stop our newly acquired fun-machine in a previous installment of Project BMW E39 M5, it was now time to let some ponies loose! Our goal; produce more power while maintaining the “quite refined” feel of our performance sedan. It’s no secret the S62 power plant in the BMW E39 M5 was extremely muffled and restricted from the factory. With a price tag rivaling a large down payment on a house, those who could afford a new E39 M5 back in the day were more interested in impressing their power lunch buddies with the M badge rather than with the rumbling performance notes the S62 could belt out. So in the name of sales numbers BMW, like any other manufacturer, put a muzzle on the ol’ girl leaving the performance enthusiast longing for more. But seriously though, what’s the point of having a 400hp engine if you can’t hear and enjoy it?!

WTAC 2014 - Competition Day 1 Coverage Presented by BorgWarner EFR

by Martin Gonzales

The World Time Attack Challenge has come a long way since its initial running back in 2008 when it was simply an Australian time attack event. WTAC has grown from a national event to one of the most anticipated time attack events in the world. The formula has been a very simple one, provide a venue and the means for the fastest time attack machines in the world to compete while giving fans a wide variety of motorsport related activities to enjoy. The level of competition at WTAC is on a completely different level than we're used to seeing in the states. Couple that with an extremely passionate fan base and there is no surprise why the WTAC has earned a permanent spot in our event calendar.

WTAC 2014 - Practice Day Coverage Presented by BorgWarner EFR

by Martin Gonzales

Your nerd herd may have missed last year's World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC), but thanks to the amazing team over at BorgWarner we are heading back down under! We can't begin to tell you just how excited we are to be making the trip over to Sydney Motorsports Park again, as this event has really made a mark in the the time attack world. Every past WTAC has been filled with excitement and controversy, and there's no reason to think this year would be any different. Will the Tilton Evo defend its title? Or will a brand new unheard of team emerge victorious? And the million dollar question on the minds of all MotoIQ fans around the world, would the Ark Designs BNR32 turn some competitive laps?

Project E39 M5: Part 1 - Stopping the Ultimate Driving Machine

by Martin Gonzales

With almost 400 horsepower and weighing in at a little over two tons, slowing down the BMW E39 M5 safely and consistently is definitely no easy task. Aside from ensuring all stock braking components are in tip top shape before we start on the inevitable road of power and handling mods, we will also be making a few improvements to the already well engineered braking system of our new/used Bavarian fun machine.

The second race weekend of the MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Championship presented by Motul was a much further drive than the usual SoCal events the series is used to participating in. This time around the MPTCC was taking a road trip to Nevada! But we're not talking about the bright city lights and nocturnal lifestyle of Las Vegas. No sir. The MPTCC was heading to lavish Pahrump, home of Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club!

Motovicity Ticket to Ride - Scion FR-S Build Part 1

by Martin Gonzales

We are now nearing the end of our coverage of the Motovicity Ticket to Ride builds, but before we get to the results of our back to back shootout between the Ticket to Ride cars and their stock counterparts, we will take you through one more build. This time we make a stop in Alpharetta, GA to see how the team at SpeedForSale Motorsports was doing with their new 2013 Scion FR-S. The techs at SpeedForSale Motorsports are usually wrenching on chassis' like the MK4 Supra or R35 GT-R, so bolting on some performance to the Motovicity Ticket to Ride Scion FR-S should be a walk in the park.

TESTED: KW Dynamic Damping Control - DDC

By Martin Gonzales

There comes a time in every gear heads life when he/she must ask themselves, "Why in St. Kojima's name am I driving my track set-up to work?".  If you can relate, then no doubt you've been victim to the track-bug's high octane venom.  Which also means the vehicle you use for daily transportation has been molested and tinkered with to the point that it no longer has what little refinement it had when it drove off the showroom floor.  All done in the name of faster lap times of course, but your vehicle is now serving as a constant reminder that there really is no such thing as an all purpose vehicle.  Well, enter KW's Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) system.

MPTCC Willow Springs

MPTCC Round 2:  Willow Springs International Raceway

By Martin Gonzales

Only two races into the 2013 MPTCC season and we already had a close battle for championship positions.  No doubt Edik Stepanyan in the M-Factory Acura Integra had a solid grasp on first place after winning both races at Autoclub Speedway, but there was a fight for third place going on between Michele Abbate in the Scion Racing Scion tC and Steve Rockwood in the MotoIQ Project Infiniti G20 Racecar!  Justin Taylor was only six points behind first and after watching Edik's taillights the first two rounds, he was ready to put the Rockstar Garage Honda S2000 in the top podium spot.
