Japanventures: Part 2 – Ikaho Toy, Doll & Car Museum

Nestled up right against the base of Mount Haruna is a little town called Ikaho which is known for its naturally high iron content hot springs and spectacular views over Gunma.  In true crazy Japan fashion, this is also the location of one of my personal favorite museums: The Toy & Doll Teddybear Confectionery & Chocolate Automobile Museum.  Yes, that is the complete name of the museum listed on the sign outside of the building.  It is also the current home of the Yokota car collection as well as heaps of other car related memorabilia you never knew you needed to know about until you saw it!

Japanventures: Part 1 - Sano Tochigi New Years Classic Car Meet

In the heart of Japan in the small town of Sano located in the Tochigi prefecture, an unprecedented gathering of some of Japan’s finest automobiles collected for the Sano New Year Classic Car Meet.  I was fortunate enough to be invited to this meet by a great friend who I met through the Miata community that also owns one of my absolute favorite cars in the entire world: the Autozam AZ-1.

Project Aurora Cobra: Part 1 - Back From the Dead

I’m sure the first question that you are asking yourself is, “What is an Aurora? I thought that was a crappy Oldsmobile!” Well you aren’t wrong, but there was also another type of Aurora that was originally manufactured by a Canadian automotive company from 1981-1983 designed to be a limited production replica to the slab-side Shelby AC Cobra.

Miatas Take Over Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

What’s not to love about the Mazda Miata?  They are lightweight, rear wheel drive and affordable enough for almost any type of car enthusiast to own. There is almost a cult following for this car, and it showed during the first weekend of September for the 25th anniversary of the Mazda Miata.  Miata enthusiasts from all over the world including Canada, Philippines, Germany, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and many US road trippers descended into Monterey, California for the fifth annual Miatas at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track event and world record attempt.
