TUSC: Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2014

by Mark Zimmerman

IMS is a temple of Speed and it was looking for sacrifices during the 9th round of the TUSC championship.  This round was a Friday afternoon support race for the Brickyard 400, and run on the roval part of the track. The layout was a last minute change that used the same layout that Indy Car used for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis in May, weeks before the 500.  Usually “roval” and “support race” do not get the sports car faithful excited, but this is Indy, and its roval has been a venue for F1. Overall, the day did not disappoint.

Chicago Auto Show 2014

by Mark Zimmerman

The Midwest has had a crushing winter of storms, making it tough to do anything car related unless you have a nice heated shop or love plowing snow. This made the Chicago Auto Show a great car oasis in a fairly dull and snow filled winter. World Endurance Championship: Circuit of the Americas 2013

by Mark Zimmerman

The WEC event at the Circuit of the Americas was all about firsts this year, and probably the most dramatic was the 3 inches of rain that fell between Thursday and Friday. This made for some rooster tails through practice, and soaking fans roaming the paddock and vendor areas. If you were lucky, you had quick access to shelter in the grandstands on the front straight, under the walking bridge, or in the SRT lounge with the “Rush” trailer blaring on several TV monitors. After an hour of downpours, I can recite the Rush trailer by heart. I am still looking forward to it.

Event Coverage: Grand Am - Road America 2013

by Mark Zimmerman

Road America hosted the first combined ALMS / Grand Am event this past weekend and gave sports car fans a preview of what a united series will look like. The sports car fan base has been strongly divided between the ALMS’s strong technology drive and link to Le Mans, and Grand Am’s cost contained formula with more of a NASCAR flare. While this tastes great / less filling has been going on for over 10 years, fans and teams alike all won this weekend with days crammed full of great racing, as well as a good comparison regarding how the different series and classes stack up in terms of lap times.
