Project Infiniti G37S: Suspension upgrade KW Variant 3s and Eibach Swaybars

by Aaron LaBeau

This is a pretty exciting step for us with this project because we can finally add some good handling characteristics to our car to go, along with the more aggressive wheel and tire setup. Despite all the beefy chassis parts that the G37 shares with the 370z, the G is starting to tip the scales as a bit of a porker and tossing this car into a corner really unsettles this car and the driver. We wanted to get the chassis setup right so that it’s fun to drive aggressively without sacrificing comfort- which is a lot to ask for.

Project G37S: Survived the 2017 Phoenix Monsoon

by Aaron LaBeau

Imagine what you think Phoenix, AZ looks like in August, and unless you've lived in the area or visited after mid July, you'd probably have the wrong image in your mind. Replace that dry and 115 degree thought with microburst type rain that drops inches of water in a matter of minutes. What started out as a normal afternoon commute home ended up as a serious choice of whether or not to drive.

Project MKVII Golf R: Part 3 - SuperPro Install

by Isaac Sandoval

In the last installment of project MKVII Golf R, we went over the install and initial impressions of the Bilstein Clubsport suspension system. Well during that install process, we also went ahead and installed almost every SuperPro component on offer for the Golf platform. These guys have been doing their homework on the MQB platform and have developed some really awesome parts that would be suitable for almost any application. Take a look at the parts we selected as we install them on Project Golf R.

Project Infiniti G37S: Advan RZII Wheels & Nitto Invo Tires

by Aaron LaBeau

More than many other modifications on a project car, we suffer over wheel and tire choices the most. Mistakes are costly and easy due to sizing choices, but also aesthetically, it's really hard to get an idea of what a wheel will look like on your ride before it's installed. Or, you go down the road someone else has, making a guess on how much you want to trust someone else's judgement.

Project Infiniti G37S: Part 4 - UpRev Osiris Tuner

by Aaron LaBeau

When last we left our project in Austin, Tx we we’re making a solid 8hp from our Fast Intentions Exhaust and 10hp from the Stillen Gen 3 Intake. Over our last few articles we have lots of pictures of Donny and James from UpRev turning wrenches and now master tuner Omar Izaguirre cracks his knuckles and goes to work on the tuning.

Project G37S Stillen Gen 3 Intake and Brakes

Project Infiniti G37S: Part 3 - Fast Intentions High Flow Cats & Exhaust

by Aaron LaBeau

After pouring over forums and websites the only company I kept seeing the words 'you won’t regret it' was with Fast Intentions.  While there are others in this market that make a great product, it seems with exhausts you need to make the choice of compromising comfort in terms of interior noise for that last bit of horsepower.

Project G37S Stillen Gen 3 Intake and Brakes

Project Infiniti G37S: Part 2 - Stillen Generation 3 Cold Air Intake and Performance Brakes

by Aaron LaBeau

Stillen tried over 50 variations before settling on what they call their Generation 3 intake for the G37.  Topped off with two large K&N filters this intake system passes through the core support to pull in big gulps of fresh air from the front of the car. We install and dyno test the intake and match it up with improved stopping in the form of a Stillen brake upgrade kit.

Project G37S Introduction

by Aaron LaBeau

When the Infiniti G35 coupe came on the scene in 2002-03 it was an overwhelming success for Infiniti.  I remember when our very own Mike Kojima drove a pre-production model to a race day at Buttonwillow...

Project Civic SI, Wilwood Brakes

Project Civic SI Wilwood Front and Rear Brake Upgrade

By Aaron LaBeau

Big brakes are car porn at its best.  More than anything else, this upgrade to our project has elicited the most conversations from drooling valet attendants who also drive Civic SI’s  We've even received a brief glance from a Turbo Porsche owner who was eager to show what 300 more horsepower could do on an open stretch of road.

Project Civic SI, progress suspension

Project Civic SI Progress Suspension

By Aaron LaBeau

When searching for a Civic SI suspension we wanted to be sure this was an "upgrade" we could live with every day.  Weekend garage queens and purpose built track cars are fun for the occasional poke but for daily driven street cars, comfort trumps performance.  Any upgrade in performance would therefore have to be a bit of a doppelganger; refined for the commute but hard-edged enough not to roll over in the corners.

Project Civic SI, wheels and tires

Project Civic SI RAYS 57Xtreme wheels and Nitto Motivo tires

By Aaron LaBeau

For a long time this journalist has lusted after having a set of expensive three piece wheels with an aggressive and deep polished lip. Unfortunately, the narrow offset and extra wide wheel necessary for this look can be problematic on FWD cars for clearance with both the suspension and fenders.

 Datsun 260z

Mike Kojima Inspired Datsun S30

By Aaron LaBeau

When you fall in love with a car sometimes it doesn’t matter how long or how much money it takes to achieve your goal.  Every editor at MotoIQ has been down that path in some form or another and it turns out our fans are pretty smitten also.  On the other side of the globe, Nino Karotta from Budapest and the team at PWRacing in Hungary are building a stunning 1974 260Z.  Nino plans on using the car for drifing, time attack and what he calls “generic” recreational activities.

Project Civic SI Hondata Flashpro

By Aaron LaBeau

I'm basically starting over with this Honda project discovering which sites keep the opinion at a minimum and can engage in thoughtful discussion about automotive aftermarket performance.  I've seen bench-racing posts, YouTube video's with Civic SI's winning or losing street races and lots of seat of the pants testing.  Who's got the most accurate butt dyno?

Project Honda Civic SI

Project Civic SI CT Engineering Intake and Exhaust

By Aaron LaBeau

When it came time to succumb to the modifying bug with the Civic SI (FA5) I realized in modifying cars we are doing something reflective of ourselves. One of the best parts about modifying a car is making it yours. If you've been reading our publication for a while you know we favor racecar parts and function over stanced out showcars. But, there's that line you cross when your street car loses the comfort and convenience in exchange for that performance that makes your car so different from every other one out there.

VIDEO: "All Or Nothing" - Formula Drift

Filmed by Zak Kerbelis & Abbitt WIlkerson

The glitz and glamour of drifting professionally is not actually what it appears. It takes many years of hard work and endless dedication from the drivers, their family, and friends. They sacrifice everything they have in order to drift. 1KIND proudly presents another side of drifting in Formula D to show you their humble beginnings and the efforts to keep doing what they love.

SE-R Turbo

Project Nissan Sentra SE-R- $6,000 (video inside)

This folks is about as cheap as speed gets. The old saying goes “Speed is money, how fast do you want to go?” Over the years I’ve spent plenty of money and had lots of fun with the car. But, even the best chapters in life come to an end and the time has come to sell the “Classic.”

Nissan Sentra SE-R- Turbo SR20 Final Build Items

Project  Nissan Sentra SE-R- Turbo SR20 Final Build Items

By Aaron LaBeau

Without a doubt the stage of adding all the little components to a major modification is the part where you can really blow your project over budget. It's also one of the most frustrating aspects because every unique piece must work in conjunction and be reliable. We did our homework and researched what we thought the best parts for the value were while noting our strict requirements for this project.  We'll try not to make this article a boring parts list.

Rednecks on a Roadtrip

By: Aaron LaBeau

Our mantra at MotoIQ is more signal less noise.  This article definitely falls into the more noise category.  You've been warned!  This is an adventure story filled with food (mostly pork), beer, Jack Burton and over 4,000 miles of road.

Stainless tubular manifold

Project Nissan Sentra SE-R: Fmax Manifold

By Aaron LaBeau

In this third part of our series, we travel down to F-Max Fabrication in San Diego, CA for our turbo manifold buildup. Jhame Peters, owner and fabricator, was ready to take the SR20DE to a new level. His turbo manifolds for Toyota, Honda, Lexus and Nissan engines have proven to make high hp numbers and give incredible reliability. Still, we wanted something better than what was currently available and, at the time, we were willing to sacrifice durability to get better flow from an exhaust manifold. As it turned out, we got a lot more than we were asking for.

Project Nissan Sentra SE-R: HKS GT3037 Turbo

By Aaron LaBeau

In our last article we covered an introduction of Project Sentra SE-R. Building a turbo kit that will make respectable power and have quick boost response is a challenge. Thankfully other SE-R owners have been down this road before. Still, being the types of people we are here at MotoIQ we're always looking for bigger and better, or in this case more power and quicker boost response. Our goal is to have the boost response commonly found in the T-25/T-28 turbos but achieve the high peak hp (400 wheel hp) possible in the Turbonetics T3/T04E turbo.
