5523 Motorsports: Interview with a Zombie Vampire

by Joe Lu and Chuck Johnson

So here we are on the flip side of Speed Week 2013, epic road trips to Utah and record runs down the Bonneville salt flats were had, but let's rewind a week and pretend that we're just a few days out from Bonneville.  In fact, we're sitting in a swelteringly hot garage at 5523 Motorsports in Escondido, California wondering if we'll make it to Speed Week at all.

Classic Remise

Road Trip: Classic Remise, Dusseldorf Germany

By Sarah Forst

Sometimes you wander into a place that far exceeds expectations. Where you spend more time drooling over cars you'd love to get behind the wheel of. Cars you stared at only in old magazine pages taped onto your walls when you were a teenager. Cars that oozed sex appeal in movies. Cars so rare you never thought you'd be standing right in front of one. This is Classic Remise, a car museum / restoration garage / classic car wet dream / car enthusiast must see. And yeah, it even has a bier garden!

The Dumpser Diver's Garage #1: The Air Freight Shed

by Dave Coleman

Yeah, yeah, yeah, where the hell is Project Miatabusa? I know, I know... After the death rattle, the Miatabusa got pushed onto the back burner for a few (dozen) months. Not (only) because of our self loathing for making the gear rattling error, but because all that life we'd been putting off to build the car started catching up with us. Within the Miatabusa team's downtime, one house was built, one house was bought, and one house nearly fell down a hill. These things can get in the way of progress.

The Miatabusa is at least up to the side burner now. A new design is 87% done in CAD, and huge bricks of Aluminum have been purchased to make the next round of parts. Meanwhile, though, here is one of the strange and diverse projects that have been keeping us from finishing the Miatabusa: a garden shed.

Project E36 M3: Part 1 - Taming the Wobbly BeastProject E36 M3: Part 1 - Taming the Wobbly Beast

by Jonathan Lawson

I'm an addict.  A full-fledged, mainlining, E36 M3 addict, and I haven't been able to lift myself out of it since 1995 when the E36 M3 was released in the U.S. By the summer of 1999 I jumped in at the tail end of the production run.  I'll save you from all of the boring in-between details for now, but after trying to shake the chassis out of my system, my fourth example now sits in our garage.

Keep Racing Fun- Bonneville Speed Week-2013

By Mike Kojima

Every once in a while we do a behind the scenes story about some of our Motorsports adventures and stuff we do on the road.  Although this might look like we're living the life according to what a lot of our readers think, when you try to perform on a high level, it actually takes a lot of blood, sweat, hard work, and passion to do what we do.  We are often too busy making things happen in the Motorsports world to document our adventures but this time we decided to focus on one of our main projects for this year: Editor Chuck Johnson breaking the H/PS world land speed record at Bonneville Speed Week 2013.

Motovicity's Ticket to Ride Update - Sparco Seats

by Mike Kojima

Believe it or not having good seats with a lot of lateral support is critical for a performance machine.  If you modify your suspension to generate a lot of lateral G's but have a seat with poor side bolstering, the act of staying in the seat can be quite distracting.  A good example of this are the base seats in the R35 Nissan GT-R.  The car has loads of cornering capability but the seats are pretty poor and you struggle to keep your body in them duing high speed cornering.

If you have ever driven a racecar with good seat you know how much easier a properly fitting wrap around racing seat can be to drive.  Your upper body can stay relaxed and your mind focuses only on turning the steering wheel and working the pedals.  Believe us it is a huge difference.

Grand-Am Road Racing at Kansas SpeedwayGrand-Am Road Racing at Kansas Speedway

by Jonathan Lawson

While Kansas City has had its share of professional racing at Kansas Speedway, the only thing missing was a professional road race series coming to town.  With the recent addition of a 2.37-mile roval (road coarse plus oval) utilizing most of the speedway banking on top of the new infield layout, that problem has been solved.

Project Camaro: Part 2 - Breathing Easier with a Borla Exhaust and AEM Air Intake System

By Merritt Morris

In the first installment of Project Camaro the vehicle experienced a thorough suspension component upgrade. Getting the tires more planted improved the sporty feel of the V6 powered RS Camaro, but appeasing only one of the senses at a time quickly left me clamoring for more. For the second installment it was time for more powa! Taking the path of least resistance, some easy bolt on modifications were the way to go. An exhaust system from Borla and an intake from AEM Air Induction Systems were sourced to clear up the airways of the naturally aspirated direct injection motor.

MPTCC Round 3: Auto Club Speedway 2

By Justin Banner

The 2013 season of the MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Championship presented by Motul was getting a little bit predictable with Edo Stepanyan dominating the first four races of the season.  However, a familiar name was thrown into the gears of the M-Factory Acura Integra. That wrench was the Prima Racing S2000 driven by Andrie Hartanto! Could the drivers of the MPTCC handle the fast S2000 or would Edo continue to reign supreme? Find out as we review Round 3 from Auto Club Speedway.

Event Coverage: Grand Am - Road America 2013

by Mark Zimmerman

Road America hosted the first combined ALMS / Grand Am event this past weekend and gave sports car fans a preview of what a united series will look like. The sports car fan base has been strongly divided between the ALMS’s strong technology drive and link to Le Mans, and Grand Am’s cost contained formula with more of a NASCAR flare. While this tastes great / less filling has been going on for over 10 years, fans and teams alike all won this weekend with days crammed full of great racing, as well as a good comparison regarding how the different series and classes stack up in terms of lap times.
