Autoclub Speedway is one of my favorite tracks to go to.  It’s close enough that your friends and family will come out and see you and the facility is by far the nicest one in Southern California.  And best of all the track is one of the fastest tracks on the west coast!  Redline Time Attack invaded the track on Memorial day weekend to host the Redline Pro Time Attack, Redline Pro Track Challenge, and MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Championship.

Formula D Round 3: Palm Beach International Raceway

By Justin Banner

"Prepare for the unknown by studying how others in the past have coped with the unforeseeable and the unpredictable." - General George S. Patton

Ladies and Gentlemen, Formula Drift has just decided to declare war on the lack of Professional Drifting in Florida and their battleground is the Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Florida! This multiple use facility has hosted drag racing, open wheel cars, karts, and even concerts. Surrounded by marshland, this land has made its mark on racing by being difficult, even for the best drivers. However, PBIR is conquerable, although it will require knowledge of the track, including its history, and the general area of Jupiter and West Palm Beach!

Inaugural Global Time Attack Breaks Off Records at WSIR

By Laura Heng, Photos by David Karey

Global Time Attack just sat down at the table to play their part in the game of time attack.  GTA's first event went down this weekend at Willow Springs International Raceway.  GTA is headed by John “Nads” Naderi, one of the most colorful industry veterans you’ll ever find.  Nads cut his teeth in the industry as the grand poobah at Super Street Magazine back in the day and has been an industry mainstay for just about forever.  Inside his head we always get a different twist on things and he is bringing his own styling touches to the sport of time attack. Who else but Nads would award a set of steak knives as the 3rd place prize.  And instead of spraying champagne at the podium some drivers were spraying Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.

Beyond the Dyno - Rotary Love 16X

By Eric Hsu

I love rotary engines even though I do not currently own a rotary powered vehicle. I'm just taking a break I suppose. I'm all about 6 cylinders at the moment, but I still love rotaries. After the jump is why I love rotaries, Hydrogen rotaries, and some information on the up and coming "big block' 16X Mazda rotary engine.

SCTA Season Opener at El Mirage

SCTA Season Opener at El Mirage

By Chuck Johnson

In California, we’re spoiled by great weather that allows us to race year round in almost every avenue of motor sports except for one.  Instead of waiting for the snow to thaw though, land speed racers patiently wait through every winter for the water to evaporate and expose one of their racetracks, the dry lakebed of El Mirage.  For the last 60 years, El Mirage has been one of three Southern California Timing Association’s (SCTA) venues for land speed racing and a site in which hundreds of land speed records have been set.

The History of Drifting and The Future of Formula Drift

The History of Drifting and The Future of Formula Drift

By Justin "Fat Rat" Banner

To many here on MotoIQ, the thought of drifting probably brings images of the Fast and The Furious. The "I need one, no, two bottles of NOS" mentality that still brings nightmares to those who love import cars and how many uninformed reporters lead into anything related to import and sport compact racing of any type.  This misinformation was heightened when the F-n-F series released Tokyo Drift, and suddenly those same reporters equated drifting with something illegal, stupid, and neon.  Lots of neon.  This lead those reporters to also think drifting was something new and Tokyo Drift was responsible for the rise of drifting as a motorsport. That, my friends, is not true and drifting as a technique has been around since possibly the 1960s.

Event Coverage: Bimmerfest 2011

By Laura Heng, Photos by Anthony Massie and Brian Nguyen, European Auto Source

Before we even step into the show lets get something straight.  In slang terminology, a BMW with four wheels is called a Bimmer and it is pronounced the same way you say “dimmer” like the adjustable light switch in your house.  Beamer/Beemer which refers to a BMW with two wheels is pronounced the way you would say “creamer” like the dairy product you would put in coffee or tea.  Now that we have that out of the way we can continue.  LH

The city of Los Angeles hasn't been able to attract an NFL team but was able to bring the largest BMW car show down from Santa Barbara for the second year in a row.  The mecca of all BMW gatherings, Bimmerfest now takes place on the grassy fields of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California and now attracts almost 2000 cars.

Suspension Techniques BMW E36 M3 suspension tested!

ST Suspensions'  BMW E36 M3 Street Suspension Reviewed

By Mike Kojima

When Formula D and road racing pro Mike Essa needed a street suspension for his daily driver BMW E36 M3 he was not looking for the latest and greatest track shredding stuff, just something where he could comfortably run a lower ride height with firm control that could replace the old 140,000 mile worn out stuff on his car.

Project Infiniti G20 Racecar - Making It Stop, Every Time

By Martin Gonzales & Steve Rockwood

Loud engines, big horsepower, gratuitous tire smoke, and high cornering speeds are why we love and watch motor sports. Most people, when they watch racing on TV, listen for the engines, stare at the gruesome crashes or marvel at the speeds drivers carry through the corners. However, much like the scrappy player on a basketball team that gets all the rebounds and never scores, brakes just don't get the attention they deserve.
